The Evil Ex Wife Was Just Acting Chapter 07

After staying home alone for two days, I received a call from 

Miles. 

I simply accepted his dinner invitation. 

We had not seen each other in years, and we had a pleasant 

conversation. 

Miles studied my expression, then still asked, “Do you still keep in touch with the Whitmore family?” 

I had been adopted by the Whitmore family. 

Not long after they adopted me, they had twin boys. 

I once heard Mrs. Whitmore say, “Looks like that spiritual advisor was right. Adopting a girl with the right profile really did bring us children. We don’t need to have any more now. Two sons are more than enough.” 

Mr. Whitmore said, “We’ll keep the girl. It’s not like we can 

adopt her and then send her back. We still have to keep up appearances. What would people think of the Whitmore family otherwise?” 

So I had been adopted to bring them children. 

No wonder my parents had always been cold to me. I had been 

sent to boarding school starting in elementary school. 

In high school, my parents and younger brothers all moved to Europe and told me I was not their biological daughter. 

As for my marriage to Caleb, it was because their business ran 

into trouble, and they needed an alliance with the Hart family. 

Only then did they remember me again, saying they had spent quite a lot of money adopting me. 

Mom even begged me, saying I should repay them. 

Unfortunately, the Hart family went bankrupt within two 

years, and Caleb and I moved into a garage apartment. 

The Whitmore family never thought of me again. 

I shook my head. 

What a perfect villainess backstory. 

Thinking of that, I let out a small laugh. 

At some point, Miles reached out and handed me a small plate 

of food. His voice was soft. 

“Before you got married, I went looking for you. Mr. 

Whitmore said you truly liked the young master of the Hart family. He said it was because Caleb was handsome.” 

I froze, and my fork fell to the floor. 

It was not because Miles’s words scared me. 

It was because I had just seen one adult and one child standing 

across from the restaurant. 

Caleb’s arm was in a sling. His face was dark as he stared at 

1. me. 

Noah’s mouth trembled again and again. I knew that meant he 

was about to cry. 

There was no scene to perform right now, but my heart 

somehow panicked. 

Still, remembering that I was supposed to be the villainess, I 

stiffened my neck and smiled at Miles. 

“What about you? Why did you come back to LA?” 

Miles’s eyes were serious. He looked at me, then lowered his 

head toward his food. 

“Work. And maybe… there were some regrets I couldn’t forget.” 

His last sentence was so soft I almost could not hear it. 

After dinner, Miles wanted to take me home. 

I waved him off, saying I wanted to shop for a while. 

Unexpectedly, he said he had not brought much luggage back 

to LA either and needed to buy some clothes. 

I forced myself to glance at the adult and child standing not far 

away. 

Noah had already been picked up by Caleb. The hurt in his eyes 

could not be hidden. 

I had just been about to refuse shopping with Miles when the 

System appeared. 

“Oh? You found yourself a rich man this quickly? Looks like you’re very dedicated to my task.” 

“Seems you can’t stand Caleb being poor either. You really are 

the cruel ex–wife I chose.” 

“This man is rich, yes, but the humiliation level isn’t high 

enough. You’d better find someone old and ugly, but 

extremely rich. That would truly strike Caleb’s heart.” 

“That’s how you make Caleb hate you. Truly hate you.” 

Then it screamed. 

“What the hell? Why isn’t the male lead with the heroine? Let 

me check…” 

“Good, good. Oh, I see. Caleb and his son only came out to buy the heroine a gift.” 

“Since you’ve run into them, start the abuse. Task: ignore the father and son, and flirt with a rich man in front of them.”
