The Evil Ex Wife Was Just Acting Chapter 05

Noah finally picked up on my signal.

“Mom, after learning from Jim Carrey, what did you think of my crying scene today?”

As soon as he finished speaking, I blinked again.

The System returned, sounding a little panicked.

“Why didn’t Caleb pass out today? I shouldn’t have let you feed him medicine. Was that medicine really that effective?”

“Wait, no. From now on, you’re not allowed to speak nicely to Caleb. I’ll conduct random inspections. If I catch you once,

fifteen thousand dollars will be deducted.”

“What’s going on with Noah? Serena gave him a lollipop, and he didn’t take it. All he did was cry. Did being abandoned scare

him stupid?”

“Yes, yes, that must be it. Looks like children are terrified of being left by their mothers.”

“Push him away. Tell him he’s not allowed to call you Mom. Give him a small dose of pain.”

It muttered on and on, saying progress was too slow, wondering whether I was not cruel enough, and complaining

that it was too busy.

I pushed Noah away and said coldly, “Don’t tell people outside that you’re my son. I’m young and beautiful, especially when

there are handsome men around.”

“Hmph. Go find your dad.”

With every sentence I said, I felt the air behind me grow

colder.

Caleb’s eyes dimmed terribly. He suddenly spoke.

“Noah, come here.”

Noah pouted and looked at me with grievance, then walked

toward his father.

The moment he reached Caleb, he started sobbing.

I quickened my steps and ran away in a panic.

The System gave me the reward and logged off in satisfaction.

Late that night, Caleb climbed into bed and suddenly pinned

me down..

His tone carried bitterness.

“You like that kind of man? Hmm?”

I said nothing.

Resentment churned inside me. The System still wanted

inspections and deductions. It was vicious.

More vicious than me, the cruel ex–wife.

Only when the bed dipped did Caleb finally get up.

In the darkness, I saw him sit at the desk and keep working on

the computer. The screen cast a pale glow over the side of his

face.

When I woke up, Caleb had already taken Noah to school.

He placed another stack of cash in front of me.

“Why didn’t you buy the bag?”

I was surprised. Seeing the thin calluses on his hands, I guessed he had taken another side job.

But I curled my lip in fake disgust.

“That little money couldn’t even buy me a bag charm, let

alone a bag.”

Caleb’s voice was low.

“It’s my fault. I’m sorry.”

After saying that, he put on his helmet and left.

That afternoon, I received a call from Cedars–Sinai.

Caleb had been in a car accident.

As expected, the major angst task that had not been completed

before could not be avoided.
