When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 08

Archer’s POV 

I couldn’t stop myself from trying to contact Harper a few more times before officially sealing the mate bond with 

Simone. 

Every message. Every call. 

All of it vanished into silence. She never responded once. 

The night before the Marking Ceremony, I sat on the balcony 

of the pack house, staring into the pitch–black night, trembling as I sent her one last message. 

Then I saw it. 

She had blocked me. Not just my number, but every social 

account. 

I was completely erased from her life. 

The red exclamation mark glared at me, and my chest felt like 

it was being crushed under a massive stone. 

So… was that man really that important to her? Important enough that she wouldn’t even keep me as a friend? 

Maybe that’s for the best. At least now I could let go 

completely. Focus on Simone. Focus on sealing the mate bond. Focus on being a good husband. A good father. 

The wedding day, the Marking Ceremony, was a long, chaotic 

dream. 

The pack’s blessings, the elders‘ chants, the mingling scent of 

alcohol and flowers–it all blurred together. 

But no matter where I looked, my eyes couldn’t stop scanning 

for Harper. 

She wasn’t there. Neither was her mother. 

I looked at the seats that had belonged to her family, now 

filled with other pack members, and a thin, relentless ache 

tore at my chest. 

After the ceremony, during the toasting, I wandered to a table 

of former classmates–wolves from outside my pack, but 

people I had once gone to school with. 

I raised my glass. Then Harper’s best friend back in high 

school, Nadia, suddenly sneered at me. 

“Alpha Archer, one drink? That’s not enough.” 

“At least three. Here’s to the person you personally drove to 

death.” 

A guy grabbed her immediately. “You’re crazy, Nadia!” 

She shrugged him off. “Crazy? I’ve long since had enough of 

you trash.” 

Her gaze landed on my mother. “And you! Even as Luna, you 

can’t just shove money into my hands to make me shut up. 

Disgusting.” 

Then she spun on her heel and left. 

Something inside me snapped. My wolf erupted. Panic ripped through my body. 

I called after her desperately. 

“Nadia! Who… who died?” 

She stopped and turned. Her laugh was bitter, mocking, but then tears spilled down her cheeks. 

“Who died?” 

“Harper.” 

The world went black. The wine glass in my hand shattered on 

the floor. 

I couldn’t believe it. I turned to my mother. 

“She said Harper died.” 

“Harper… why would she die?” 

“You said she was preparing for her Marking Ceremony!” 

My mother’s face went pale. Simone clutched my arm tightly. 

“Archer, I’ll explain later. This is our wedding now.” 

I whipped my head toward her. “You knew too?” 

Simone went white. My old classmates avoided my gaze. 

And then I laughed. 

So, the whole world knew Harper had died. Everyone. Except 

1. me. 

My chest felt like it was being ground into dust, my wolf’s heart shattered. I grabbed my beta–my oldest friend- shaking, tears blurring my vision, and ran from the ceremony. 

By the entrance, my legs gave out. I collapsed to my knees 

with a thud. 

Everyone stared. I didn’t care. 

I clutched him, my voice trembling. 

“Tell me the truth. Please. I need to know.” 

He froze. Hesitated. Then slowly, reluctantly, he told me 

everything. 

And the moment I heard the truth, I laughed. 

So this… this is what it was? 

From the start, the stupidest, most foolish person in the world… had always been me. 

I’d noticed Harper had gotten unnaturally thin. 

I’d felt how light she was in my arms, how her body’s warmth 

was fading, how her wolf scent was weak, ready to dissipate. 

But what did I do? 

Because of pride. Because of resentment I couldn’t let go. I forced myself to pretend not to notice. 

Even using wet wipes to clean my hands over and over… just to hide how terrified I was to ask the question I couldn’t bear to 

voice.
