When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 04

When My Wolf Went Silent Chapter 04

This trip had already drained me more than I could bear.

After this, I might never be able to leave the house again.

Thankfully, around 1 p.m., I got a call from Archer. They had finally left and came pick me up.

My mother was not pleased, but after I spent a long time talking her through it, she managed to keep her composure.

Once I was settled in the car, Simone smiled at me in that delicate, teasing way.

“Sorry we’re late, Harper.” She smiled shyly, leaning against Archer’s arm.

“Archer kept me up too late last night.”

“So I couldn’t get out of bed this morning.”

Her hand was slightly clenched, almost holding back something.

Archer, having secured my wheelchair and now sitting in the driver’s seat, glanced at me in the rearview mirror.

Then he coldly said to Simone, “Why are you explaining so much to her?”

A bitter ache pricked at my chest, but I kept my expression calm and waved quietly at my mother through the window.

Archer drove fast. The car shook so much that I felt like I might throw up, but I silently endured.

It reminded me of six years ago. Back then, after Archer got his license, he always drove his father, Alpha Rig’s Jeep to take me out.

He knew I got car sick, so he always drove smooth and steady.

I always got nauseous in taxis or buses, but I never once felt sick in Archer’s car.

So when he slammed the brakes this time, I couldn’t support myself and hit the back of the seat hard.

My stomach churned violently, and I let out a soft whimper.

Archer heard it and laughed again, sharp and mocking.

“Harper, don’t think I’ll go easy on you like I did six years ago. No slowing down, no gentle braking. Not happening.”

I quietly wiped the tears from the corner of my eyes and spoke evenly.

“No, you should go easy on Simone. She’s your mate now. The future Luna of our pack.”

He laughed again, harsh and amused. “You’re right about that.”

Then he slammed the gas again, and my body hit the back of the seat with another jolt.

My back ached, but a small smile curled on my lips.

Good. Hate is fine. At least while I’m alive, I still hold a tiny spot in his mind.

It didn’t hurt for long. Soon, we arrived.

When I got out, Archer lifted me into his arms.

For a brief moment, I nearly let the tears fall.

I didn’t want to let go of him. He was warm, and I greedily clung to that warmth, just like six years ago when I had lain in his embrace.

God, I missed him so much.

But Archer quickly set me down in the wheelchair and, clearly annoyed, had Simone grab two wet wipes to scrub his hands like he couldn’t bear the contact.

Simone, awkward, whispered an explanation to me.

“Sorry, Harper. Archer is obsessive about cleanliness. Any woman besides me touching him… he finds it disgusting.”

I lowered my head and pressed my lips together. I pretended not to notice, not to hear.

Then the two of them, arms linked, pushed me into a Mexican restaurant.

As soon as we sat at the table, Archer picked up the menu and began ordering several spicy dishes.

My chest twisted.

He never ate spicy food before, and neither did I. Who was he ordering for if not for Simone?

I didn’t bother myself with it.

I could barely eat now, let alone something that heavy. I asked the server to bring me a light vegetable soup.

But for some reason, Archer suddenly exploded in anger.
