I Used To Heal From Everything He Let Her Do To Me, Until I Couldn’t Chapter 03

Those words made Adrian’s eyes darken instantly. ”Evelyn, when did you learn to be so manipulative?”

”If you don’t behave, you’ll face family punishment. Take the cane or apologize to Ivy. Your choice.”

Either way, he wanted to see me bleed.

I reached for the fruit knife on the bedside table and, without hesitation, dragged it across my wrist.

My skin split open, hot blood pouring out and staining the pale sheets red.

Ivy shrieked and stumbled back.

”Are you insane?” Adrian’s expression shifted too, shock filling his eyes.

”Is that apology enough?” I asked calmly.

Ivy said pitifully, ”Adrian only asked you to apologize. Why would you do something like that? Now it looks like we bullied you. That scared the hell out of me.”

She burrowed into his arms. ”I told you she was faking it. She slit her wrist without even blinking.”

”Don’t be scared, Ivy.” Adrian held her close, his voice soft as he comforted her.

But when he looked at me, his eyes were cold enough to cut. ”Making a scene like this is disgraceful. You need to learn your lesson.”

He raised his voice. ”Bring the cane.”

I was pinned down hard.

The cane struck my back, each blow heavier than the last.

I clenched my teeth and made no sound.

Only after the cane finally snapped did Adrian stop and leave me with one sentence.

”You’ve suffered enough for this. We’re done with it. Tomorrow is the engagement party. Clean yourself up and don’t embarrass me again.”

With Ivy in his arms, he walked away without looking back.

In the thick stench of blood, I heard the System’s notification: [System update progress: 95%.]

Lying on the cold floor, I suddenly remembered something.

Three years ago, I could have left.

I was the one who gave up that chance for him.

Three years ago, Adrian had been set up by his enemies and left hanging by a thread.

Later, when he miraculously survived, he thought he was simply hard to kill.

He never knew I had already saved enough credits and had one foot through the exit portal.

I spent half of them to save his life.

The System called me stupid.

But some things could only be understood by the person living through them.

I remembered how, when the tsunami came, he dug me out of the mud with his bare hands like a madman, his fingers covered in blood.

I remembered one night when I suddenly wanted warm vanilla custard, and he drove across half the city to bring it back to me while it was still hot.

I remembered an ordinary dinner when he casually took out an antique necklace and said lightly, ”I saw it at an auction. It suits you.”

And on my birthday that year, when I casually said I wanted to see snow, he canceled every meeting and flew me to Aspen.

That day, the snow had truly fallen into our joined palms.

But later, the snow melted, taking with it the last bit of warmth in my heart.

I was startled awake when Adrian came in with people behind him.

”It’s time for the engagement party.”

I had no interest in getting engaged.

But I was leaving soon anyway, so it didn’t matter where I went.

Outside the hotel, Ivy came up to me and linked her arm through mine affectionately.

”I’ll take Evelyn to change into her gown.”

I calmly pulled my arm free. ”I can do it myself.”

She pouted at once.

Adrian glanced over, his voice cold. ”She’s trying to help. Don’t be ungrateful.”

With a look from him, two of his men grabbed me and dragged me after Ivy into the dressing room.

The moment the door closed, two girls roughly tore off my clothes.

The gauze on my back was ripped away.

My wounds had not fully closed, and my flesh was torn open all over again.

Pain blackened my vision, and I was too weak to fight back.

In the chaos, someone kicked me in the stomach.

My body still hadn’t recovered from Ivy’s ice dive, and a mouthful of bloody foam rose in my throat.

Ivy bent down and laughed softly beside my ear. ”Evelyn, tonight, everyone is going to know what a slut you are.”

By the time I was half-dragged into the center of the ballroom, every sound in the room died.
