My Mate Sent Me to Asylum Chapter 05

My Mate Sent Me to Asylum Chapter 05

He froze. His lips trembled.

“You’re married?”

I was done. “Charles. You have your life. I have mine. Get out.”

I moved to shut the door but he shoved his way inside.

“Nova. You don’t have to lie. I just want to talk…”

Footsteps. Small and hurried.

Iris appeared. Maya was in her arms, crying.

Her eyes flicked between me and Charles. A shadow passed through them. “Charles. The banquet isn’t

over. Why did you leave? Mom’s upset.”

“And Maya won’t stop crying. Let’s go back.”

Charles grabbed my arm. “Come back with me. Nova.”

The air shifted. More footsteps echoed through the garage.

Charles froze. His grip loosened.

He followed my gaze over his shoulder.

A tall man walked toward us. Slight limp. Flowers in his hand.

“Landon!” I moved to meet him.

“Hi, my love.” He signed and kissed my forehead.

His eyes landed on Charles and Iris. “Who’s this?”

“My former mate.”

Landon nodded and signed again.

I turned to Charles.

“My mate says nice to meet you. But you’re not welcome here.”

Charles’s head snapped up. His eyes were bloodshot.

“You married a mute? Have you forgotten? Our bond isn’t broken!”

I laughed. “Charles. Maya’s what? Five now? You have no shame?”

“Get out of my sight. I don’t wanna look at you.”

His jaw clenched. “No. You’re just trying to piss me off.”

“He’s a mute. You know what you are? A Luna’s daughter. My mate. And you go off and marry a mute.”

My smile was ice. “Pretty sure those belong to Iris now.”

Charles froze.

I slammed the door and drove off.

“Don’t be mad.” Landon’s hands moved gently. “I’m here.”

My eyes burned. I squeezed his hand.

Landon was a doctor.

After I escaped the fire, someone got me to a hospital. That was where I met him.

He couldn’t speak. Had never been able to. But from the surgery to the recovery, he never left my side.

He never flinched at my face. He cried when I told him my story.

Three years ago. He proposed.

Our wedding was small. Just us. No guests.

Meeting him was the best thing that ever happened to me.
