I Rejected My Double-Standard Alpha Chapter 08

She seemed to realize something, and started talking fast, panic rising in her voice. 

“No… the camera in my corner was broken. It didn’t mess with 

daily work, so I never reported it or got it fixed.” 

Matteo stepped forward, pulling Daphne behind him. 

“Rafael, what are you doing here?” 

Rafael ignored him, walking straight to the corner and glancing up at the camera. Then he smiled. 

“Funny you should mention that. A Gamma inspection a few days ago showed that camera was faulty. I had it replaced 

immediately.” 

Daphne went pale, opening her mouth to protest, but Rafael 

turned and said slowly, “I trust my orders were carried out. 

Which means that camera is working perfectly right now.” 

He didn’t look at me; his gaze stayed fixed on Daphne, who 

trembled, white as a sheet. 

“Daphne. Should I pull up the footage and get to the bottom of 

this?” 

The chaos ended when Daphne suddenly fainted. 

The security footage was never actually reviewed. 

Matteo later claimed he’d checked Daphne’s computer- saying a system glitch had prevented the files from saving. 

Even though Daphne had fainted clumsily, everyone present 

knew the truth. 

Yet Matteo still chose to protect her. 

When I’d been accused of malice, he’d sided against me 

without hesitation. 

When Daphne’s attempt to frame me was exposed, Matteo 

stayed silent, even warning everyone not to mention it again. 

Once, that double standard would have broken my heart. 

Now I held what I needed, a cold smile on my lips. 

Daphne, you can’t hide behind faking a faint forever. 

Matteo–and everyone who stirred him up–would all pay for 

what they’d done. 

That afternoon, I handed in my resignation. 

Thanks to the morning’s incident, my resignation went 

through without a hitch. Unusually smoothly. 

Probably to buy my silence, they paid my full severance 

without hesitation. 

Outside the building, an expensive sports car was waiting. 

Rafael stepped out, handsome as ever, and smiled at me. 

“So… I did you a huge favor. No invitation to dinner?” 

[Honestly, Rafael’s perfect–good–looking, rich, and he’s liked you this whole time. I wouldn’t mind if you ended up 

with him.] 

Lily sounded thoroughly approving. She’d been firmly on 

Matteo’s side before. 

Rafael ordered two coffees and some pastries. 

He tapped his fingers nervously, then spoke. 

“About that last message… I didn’t send it to the wrong 

person. It was for you on purpose.” 

“I’m an Alpha. Good–looking, tall, well–educated… and currently single. I’m not your fated mate, but…““If Matteo 

could be with you, I’m just as good as he is. So… do you want to try going out with me?” 

[Can’t wait for Matteo to find out someone beat him to it!] Lily 

snarked. 

Rafael checked his watch, playing it off like nothing was 

wrong. 

“We don’t have to start right away, of course. I’ll pursue you patiently until you say yes. Don’t worry–I’ve got you 

covered.” 

He couldn’t help adding, “And you’ve angered Matteo. You need protection.” 

“A scorned Alpha is like a ticking time bomb… not safe at all.” 

I laughed at his worried–yet–casual expression. 

“So that’s been your plan all along, huh?” 

“Play the hero so I’ll associate you with safety?” 

I looked straight at him, and his smile froze. I said pointedly, “Too bad. I only trust myself–and I don’t believe in random 

coincidences.” 

I pulled out the necklace hidden under my shirt and smiled. 

“Rafael… guess what this is.”
