My Cheating Boyfriend Thought I Was Obedient—So I Married Someone Else Chapter 02

A woman stepped out. Long legs. Dangerous curves.

She wore a loose bathrobe and didn’t look surprised to see me standing there.

“Mr. Voss—” Her voice dripped honey as she pressed against him, showing plenty of skin. “My endorsement deal—”

Kael shifted away slightly and took a sip of his drink. “Talk to Cheyne. You can leave now.”

“Thank you, Mr. Voss!” She sounded delighted.

By the time she came out again, she was fully dressed. I stared at her and finally placed the face.

Chloé Bianchi. An influencer who’d blown up online recently.

She stopped at the door. I stepped aside.

Maybe she wanted to flatter Kael. She took her time looking me over.

She shot me a look and laughed. “Mr. Voss has great taste. Even his assistant has that innocent-but-hot thing going on. She’d kill it as an influencer.”

Kael didn’t look up. He didn’t correct her either. Just sounded impatient.

“You’re still here?”

She swung her bag and strutted out, happy.

Kael got dressed and walked over. He took my bag like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like nothing had happened.

One arm curled around my waist.

“You hungry? What do you want for dinner? I’ll take you somewhere.”

I didn’t move. He raised an eyebrow, figured something out.

His lazy smile came back. His fingers traced circles at my hip.

“Not happy? Want something? I can have them open the room next door—”

It had always been like this. I knew. I’d always known.

I knew he was a player. I knew he couldn’t stay faithful.

But I dove in anyway. No one to blame but myself.

I handed him the knife with my own two hands.

So I never resented anyone. Not even Kael.

I always knew there’d be a day when we’d end. Completely. For good.

I just kept hoping. A little longer. A little longer.

Now that the day had finally come—

Strange. No unbearable pain. No heart tearing itself apart. Just release.

Maybe my heart had gone numb a long time ago. Too many cuts.

I pulled away from Kael’s arm. My eyes stayed low as I took back my bag.

“Kael. I’m breaking up with you.”

My voice came out soft. But steady. With a courage I’d never had before.
