A few officers exchanged looks, then rushed into the room together.

I quickly followed behind them.

Inside, the oldest of the kids, Ronan Arnault, was thrashing around, crying his heart out.

The other four were lying still on the bed, their eyes shut tight.

I ran over and scooped the oldest one into my arms.

“It’s okay, sweetie. Auntie’s here now.”

I gently patted his back to calm him down.

“My brothers were given poison!”

His tear-streaked face was full of fear and sadness.

My heart dropped. I instantly tensed up.

One of the officers nearby turned pale. “What did you just say?”

He rushed over, his voice shaky, trying to stay composed. “Kid, can you tell me exactly what happened?”

Ronan looked terrified and buried his face in my chest.

I comforted him quietly until he finally started to talk.

Through broken words and sniffles, he told us everything.

After they were taken by Nathan and the others, the kids would not stop crying.

To shut them up, Nathan had forced each of them to swallow a white pill.

Luckily, Ronan felt unwell and spit his pill out, so he did not pass out like the others.

Right then, one officer spotted a white pill on the floor.

He picked it up, gave it a quick sniff, and turned to the boy. “Did you all take this pill?”

“Yeah,” Ronan said quietly. “My brothers did.”

The officer let out a long breath. “Good news, it’s just a low-dose sleeping pill. They’re going to be okay.”

“Still,” he added, motioning to the others, “we’ll need to take them all to the hospital to be safe.”

Seeing that, the officers each picked up one of the kids and carried them out of the room.

I held Ronan close as he kept crying. Nathan’s face turned completely pale.

“Lani, wait, let me explain …”

He started, but another officer cut him off.

“Save it for the station.”

At that, Nathan’s legs buckled and he collapsed to the floor.

Brittany and the others looked totally panicked.

“Take them away!”

With that order, the SWAT team led Nathan and the rest out.

While they were in custody, the biological father of the five kids came looking for me.

He confirmed the kids were his and tried to give me ten million as thanks.

I turned him down, but he became curious about me after that.

Benedict White started showing up with all kinds of excuses, trying to spend time with me. With the kids happily supporting us, we ended up dating.

I thought life was finally going to settle down and stay happy.

Until Nathan and Brittany got out of jail.

Since the kids were not physically hurt and it was not considered child trafficking, they only got a short sentence.

After they were released and heard that Benedict had claimed the kids and was dating me, they were furious.

They made up their minds to get back at me and ruin everything.

I had no clue what they were planning as I was busy getting ready for my engagement to Benedict.

The big day finally came.

Just as Benedict got down on one knee and proposed in front of the guests, Nathan and Brittany suddenly showed up!

“You murderer!” Nathan shouted.

Brittany looked at me sadly and said, “Lani, don’t make another mistake! You can still stop this!”

The whole room went silent, and everyone stared in shock.
