She Has Forty Eight Hours To Live After Her Fiance Admits His Affair Chapter 07

The second Mia screamed and collapsed, everyone swarmed around her.

Elias held me in his arms, refusing to let go.

His body heat seeped through the blood-soaked shirt-a sickening warmth that felt like a brand.

But I no longer had the strength to push him away.

My consciousness hovered in the air between them, a dispassionate spectator to it all.

Doctors arrived, lifted me onto a stretcher, and covered me with a white sheet.

The moment the cloth blocked my view, I heard someone shout,

“Mia’s been taken to the ER – she’s having a panic attack.”

Elias hesitated.

Between my stretcher and the ER, he wavered for only three seconds.

Then he turned and walked toward Mia.

Watching his retreating back, a bitter, soundless laugh bubbled up inside what was left of me.

The corridor stretched, endless. My consciousness trailed after him, drifting like smoke into the

observation room.

Mia leaned half-sitting against the bed, pale-faced with red-rimmed eyes. The second she saw

him, tears fell,

“Elias… Lila… she really…”

Elias stood in the doorway, staring at her, saying nothing,

“Elias, are you blaming me?”

She got out of bed barefoot, stumbled over and grabbed his arm,

“I never thought Lila would actually… I just thought she was throwing another tantrum like

before…”

Elias pried her fingers loose.

“Rest first,” he said, “I’m going out for a smoke.”

At the end of the corridor, Elias slumped against the wall. The ring was a hard, cold circle in his

palm. His thumb moved over it, again and again, a mindless, soothing motion.

A doctor walked down the hall toward him.

“Mr. Hale, Mia’s CT and neurological scan results are in.”

The doctor flipped open the medical chart,

“No brain damage was found. Medically speaking, her symptoms are more consistent with intentional acting than a genuine panic attack.”

Elias said nothing.

The doctor hesitated, then turned to another page,

“One more thing – regarding Ms. Carter’s father.”

My consciousness jolted.

“The day Mr. Carter passed away, he briefly regained consciousness. A young woman visited him afterward. His vital signs deteriorated sharply immediately following the visit, and he ultimately choked to death after biting through his oxygen tube. The visitor wasn’t properly registered, but the nurse noted in the remarks that she claimed to be Officer Carter’s adoptive sister, surname

Sloan.”

Elias stared at that page of the chart, reading every word slowly.

His expression didn’t change, but I saw his hand clutching the ring tremble.

He finally knew the truth.

My consciousness drifted in the air, watching Elias fold that page and slip it into his pocket, watching him tell the doctor, “Don’t mention this to anyone,” watching him turn back toward the

observation room.

When he pushed open the door, Mia was leaning against the headboard scrolling her phone. She quickly flipped it over the second she saw him, offering an innocent smile,

“Elias, you’re back.”

Elias sat on the edge of the bed, reached out, and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

His touch was light, gentle.

Mia’s eyes reddened as she threw herself into his arms,

“Elias, I’m so scared… I’m afraid you’ll leave me too… Lila’s gone, I only have you now…”

“No,” his voice was soft,

“I won’t leave you.”

Mia buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled,

“Lila’s gone, and the baby too… don’t be too sad. We’ll have many more children in the future. After all, we’re already married. I’ll take good care of you – I’ll take care of you for Lila.”

Elias looked down at her.

Slowly, a smile touched his lips, not reaching his eyes. “A marriage license isn’t enough.” His voice was a soft, intimate promise.

“I’m going to give you a wedding you’ll never forget.”
