Blind Heiress Kissed The Mad Regent Chapter 05

Before anyone could even demand an explanation, my vision went black and I collapsed.

“Elara!” Silas’s voice cracked with panic as he caught my limp body.

As everything started to go dark, all I felt was pure, drowning regret, cursing my worthless, half-blind eyes.

That morning, after I’d finished dressing, my mother had pulled me aside, acting all mysterious.

She said she’d put a special, precious item in one of my chests and that I absolutely had to wait until my wedding night to open it. I had promised, but the moment her back was turned, I’d run off to snoop.

Box after box held nothing but boring silks and gold.

Then I got to the last chest. I could barely make out a dark, blurry shape huddled on the floor, making a low rumbling sound.

I thought it was a cat. All excited, I leaned in making kissy sounds, trying to coax it over. When the shadow didn’t move, I just reached right in and touched it. The thing whipped around and sank its fangs into me

before it bolted.

The ceremony was about to start, so I’d rushed back and thought nothing of the little bite.

Now it hit me. That wasn’t a kitten. That was a venomous snake.

A wave of dizziness swept over me. No wonder I’d felt cold and weak all day. I’d thought it was just from skipping breakfast.

Feeling the poison raging through my body, I clutched Silas’s hand, my voice breaking into sobs. “Please, don’t let me die. I don’t want to die. I just got my happily ever after, I haven’t even gotten to enjoy it yet.”

Then my head lolled, and I lost consciousness entirely.

Silas held me against his chest, his promise desperate and fierce. “Stay with me, Elara. I’m not letting

anything happen to you. I swear it.”

He was screaming for the royal physicians, a lethal chill radiating off him. Swords drawn, he guarded the

door. “If she dies, every single one of you goes with her.””

The physicians worked in shifts for a full day and night, throwing everything they had at it.

Finally, the head physician stepped forward, his legs visibly shaking. “Your Highness, the princess has been

poisoned by a rare venom. Standard antidotes won’t touch it. I’m afraid this is beyond anything we can do…”

Silas had his blade at the man’s throat before he could finish. The physician nearly fainted, blurting out in panic, “There’s… there’s one last option. If we can find someone with a compatible blood type and perform a Blood Renewal Ritual, we might be able to slow the venom down long enough to develop an antidote.”

Silas didn’t hesitate for a single second. He shoved up his sleeve. “Take mine.”

“Absolutely not!” The Queen Mother stepped forward to block him. “You are of royal blood. You are the Regent of this realm. You cannot throw away your own life on a reckless gamble.”

While they were at odds, Marlowe watched from the side, quietly triumphant. Framing me for the Regent’s murder might have failed, but if the venom just killed me, that would be an even cleaner end to her grudge.

She hid her glee and rushed forward, her expression one of anguished devotion, tears streaming down her

face. “Elara might have messed up, but she’s still family. I’ll give my blood. Please, just let me save her.”

She only meant it as a performance, a bid for a good reputation.

But a second later, Silas flicked his sword and sliced a deep gash across her wrist. Blood gushed out. He

stared down at her ashen face and sneered.

“Fine. We’ll use yours. If she pulls through, you walk away. If she doesn’t, you’re going into the ground with

her.”
