No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 02

No Longer a Silent Luna Chapter 02

By the time I got home and finished showering, my phone lit up.

It was a bunch of messages from Elara.

[Lyra, what do you want to eat tomorrow? I’ll cook for you.]

[Don’t worry, I definitely won’t mess it up this time. Then again, it’s not like you have a pup left to lose anyway, right?]

[No matter how much you throw a fit, Corvin will still choose me. Pathetic.]

[If I were you, I’d have break the mate bond with him already.]

My fingers paused over the screen.

And just like that, the memories came rushing back like a nightmare.

A month ago, I had come back down the mountain and walked into the house.

The first thing I saw was Elara on the couch, wearing my silk nightgown.

Around her neck was the gemstone necklace that had been meant for me.

I lost my mind.

I rushed at her, grabbed her by the hair, and raised my hand to slap her.

But before I could even touch her, Corvin seized my wrist and slapped hard across my face.

”Lyra, have you lost your mind?”

I had not even laid a finger on Elara, and he still had me locked away for three full days.

Through the wall, every night, I could hear Elara moaning.

She did it on purpose, loud enough to make sure I heard every second.

No matter how hard I pounded on the door or screamed, Corvin ignored me.

Sometimes he’d even shift her around just to make her moans carry louder through the wall.

That was my punishment.

By the end of the third day, I was so close to snapping for real.

I had already shoved open the window, ready to jump, when the pup inside me moved.

And that tiny movement pulled me back from the edge.

I still had my pup.

I couldn’t lose.

But what I never expected was that on the very next day after I was let out, Elara slipped abortion pills into my breakfast.

I started bleeding so heavily I couldn’t even process what was happening.

And then the pup was gone.

I really did go mad after that.

I grabbed a knife and stormed into Elara’s restaurant.

I smashed the place to pieces and screamed to every neighbor and customer that she knew Corvin was mated and still chose to be his mistress.

With red eyes and a shaking voice, I demanded, ”Was it you? Why did you kill my pup? Why?”

But all she did was tremble and repeat the same line like some innocent victim, ”I didn’t mean to… don’t accuse me.”

I barely had time to lift the knife before the police tackled me.

When Corvin arrived, he didn’t even look at me.

He rushed straight to Elara, pulled her into his arms, and kept comforting her.

He never once asked what she had done.

When he finally looked at me, his face was full of disappointment, his eyes cold as ice.

”You hate Elara that much? You won’t be satisfied until you ruin her completely? This time, you can spend a month inside. Maybe that’ll teach you some manners.”

While I was in jail, he even arranged for a few other inmates to ”take care” of me.

I was beaten every day.

Fresh bruises layered over the old ones until my whole body felt broken.

And after enough pain, enough humiliation, and enough disappointment, whatever I’d once felt for him was gone for good.

I stopped wanting his love.

The memory faded.

The taunting texts in front of me suddenly felt dull and meaningless.

I tossed my phone aside without replying.

When I woke up the next morning, the whole house smelled like food.

I walked out and found Elara perched on Corvin’s lap, feeding him soup with a spoon.

They took turns sipping from it, sticky and intimate, enough to make my stomach turn.

I closed the door behind me, and the sound startled them both.

Elara jumped to her feet and looked at me with fake panic. ”Lyra, Alpha Corvin and I were just playing around. Don’t take it the wrong way.”

Corvin stared at me hard, as if he were bracing himself for me to lose control and attack her.

If this had been before, I probably would have flipped the soup right into her face.

But my calm this time seemed to unsettle him more than any tantrum ever could.

”You two go ahead,” I said evenly. ”Pretend I’m not here.”

I walked around them, poured myself a glass of water, and drank it in silence.

Then I turned to go back to my room.

Corvin caught my wrist.

His eyes searched mine, like he was trying to find the emotion I was refusing to give him.

”What time did you get home last night? Why didn’t you text me so I knew you were safe?”
