He Turned My Exam Into a Joke, I Turned the Page Chapter 13

Two months into the semester, I slowly got used to campus life here.

I also made a close friend, another American student named Jenna Collins.

“There’s an exchange student from the States,” Jenna said, pulling me into the crowd. “Apparently he’s tall and hot. Come on, let’s take a look.”

The door to the office was open.

The exchange student stood inside, picked up the textbooks on the desk, and turned around.

The crowd let out a wave of gasps.

Jenna stood on tiptoe to look inside.

“Sienna, look! Look!”

“He’s cute!”

I lifted my head and met Luke’s gaze.

I could not help clicking my tongue softly.

He was surrounded by the crowd, but his eyes stayed locked on me. He was about to push

through the people and come toward me.

Jenna tugged excitedly at my sleeve.

“He’s coming! He’s coming!”

“Sienna, he’s walking over!”

I looked at Luke, my expression slowly turning cold.

His steps stopped right there.

He did not dare come any closer.

“Do you two know each other?” Jenna asked suspiciously, looking from me to him.

“No,” I said.

My voice was neither loud nor soft, just enough for Luke to hear.

A flash of hurt crossed his face.

“Let’s go.” I pulled Jenna away. “People who don’t matter only waste our time.”

Luke was in the same major as me.

When the professor had us form groups in class, he dragged his chair over and sat beside

me without hesitation.

Jenna lowered her voice beside my ear. “Does he have a crush on you?”

I kept my head down and continued writing the project proposal, ignoring her.

I divided the work among the five people in our group.

“No rush. I’ll give it to you in a couple of days,” Peter said, lacing his fingers behind his head.

“Same here.”

“Me too.”

Only Luke stared at his laptop, searching for information.

Before class ended for the day, he stopped me and handed me a thick stack of organized

materials.

“I put a yellow sheet in there as a divider.”

“The pages above it are my part. The pages below it are the materials I organized for you.”

“Maybe you can use them.”

I flipped through the stack.

Then I pulled out the yellow sheet and threw it, along with everything below it, back at him.

The papers scattered across the floor.

“I don’t need them,” I said flatly.

Luke clenched his hands and stood there awkwardly. He could not stop his eyes from turning

red.

He apologized in a hoarse voice. “I’m sorry.”

“I thought I was helping.”

He crouched down and picked up the papers one by one. Then he dipped his head to me and fled in embarrassment.
