He Turned My Exam Into a Joke, I Turned the Page Chapter 05

“What kind of tantrum are you throwing now?”

The smile disappeared from Luke’s face.

“Sienna, seriously?”

“You’re being completely unreasonable.”

He threw the breakfast at my feet.

The scalding-hot latte burst open, soaking my pant leg as steam rose from it.

I cried out in pain.

But Luke just rode away on his bike without looking back.

His figure grew farther and farther away, warping and twisting in the summer heat until he

vanished around the corner.

He had walked out of my world completely.

I took out my phone and deleted every treasured photo of us from my album. Then I sent all the carefully sorted chat logs to the trash.

My eyes hurt terribly.

I took a deep breath and blocked Luke altogether.

Then I went home to change my pants. By the time I got to school, class had already started.

“Go back to your seat,” the teacher said.

My eyes landed on the lonely single desk.

Luke had moved away.

He had taken his desk and chair to the front of the room, right in front of Zoey.

When he saw me, he scoffed and turned his face away.

We did not speak for the entire morning.

“What’s wrong with you?” Zoey asked, poking Luke between the brows with her fingernail. “Stop frowning.”

Luke gave me a sideways glance.

“Someone ruined my mood first thing this morning.”

That group immediately crowded around again, eager for gossip.

“Is Princess acting dramatic again?”

Princess was the nickname Zoey had given me.

Because I was afraid of the dark, sensitive to noise, and not exactly healthy, she mocked me

for being precious, delicate, and spoiled like some fragile princess.

“What else?” Zoey laughed. “That clingy little leech is always being dramatic and expecting

someone to comfort her. She really thinks Luke is her servant.”

Mason laughed. “But Luke still gets Princess her lunch every day.”

“Aren’t you the one begging to be her servant?”

Luke’s face darkened.

Teenage boys were always obsessed with saving face.

So he pulled out the pink lunch card and threw it at me from halfway across the classroom.

“It’s lunchtime. If you want food, get it yourself.”

The card struck me squarely on the bridge of my nose.

The pain was sharp and stinging, and tears sprang to my eyes on instinct.

“Come on, let’s go eat!” Luke said, wrapping an arm around Zoey as they headed out.

The crowd scattered.

A warm drop fell.

I lowered my head and realized my desk was covered in blood. I quickly pressed a tissue to

my nose.

Bright red spread across the drawing Luke had made for me.

It was a cute cartoon doodle of the two of us, holding hands and smiling brightly.

I tried wiping it with a wet wipe.

The more I wiped, the dirtier it became.

It felt like there was no going back anymore.
