After hearing that, fury burned through Serena. She revealed her true form: a nine-tailed feline

shifter.

“If you two insist on being in this together, then don’t blame me for taking you down with me!”

At that moment, the floating comments began popping up one after another.

[Holy shit! Why has our precious female lead gone full villain? Didn’t she lose her only tail to save the male lead? How does she have nine tails now?]

[Did we get the plot wrong? Is the female lead of this story actually the side character?]

[God, I can’t believe I treated the evil side character as our precious female lead. I’m the worst.]

While I was staring blankly at the floating comments, a fluffy red tail whipped straight toward me.

Mason planted himself firmly in front of me and took the full force of the strike.

A pained, restrained look crossed his face as he pushed me toward the banquet hall doors.

“Go. I’ll handle them.”

I nodded at him. This time, I chose to trust him.

Only after the sounds of fighting behind the doors gradually died down did I slowly push the

banquet hall doors open.

Mason was in the middle of the hall, down on one knee, gripping the hilt of his sword as blood

poured from his body.

Everyone else lay on the floor, including Serena and Victor Frost.

A second before Mason collapsed, I caught him.

A dense crowd of shifters rushed in behind me. The one at the front dropped to one knee before me.

“Ms. Sullivan, we’re sorry. We’re late.”

“It’s okay.”

In the hospital bed, Mason groggily opened his eyes.

The warm spring sunlight fell across his face like a gentle hand brushing over his features.

“You’re awake?”

I propped my chin on my hand and looked at his just-awakened face, my own gaze full of

tenderness.

“Yeah.”

“I’m sorry. I lied to you from the very beginning.”

My heart tightened abruptly.

What did he mean, he had lied to me from the very beginning?

He quickly explained, “Actually, when you first saved me, I didn’t lose my memory after I woke I just didn’t want to go back to the shifter world. I wanted to get away from Serena completely.”

“In that battle, I defeated the enemy of our shifter race. I thought that as long as I ran away, they wouldn’t bring up the past again, and my parents could continue ruling as Shifter King and Queen.”

“But I never expected that enemy hadn’t been completely killed. Like me, he had only been severely

injured. That was one of the reasons Serena came looking for me.”

“When you asked me about my family duty and my fiancée, I realized they might be coming for me. I just didn’t expect them to come so soon.”

“But when I saw them give you the money and watched you take it, I really was hurt. That was the reality I didn’t want to face.”

“After I went back with Serena, I completely killed that powerful enemy. Then I came back to find you. She forced me to give up the position of Shifter King. She had guessed I might agree, so she kept one more move in reserve.”

“She placed Cole by your side. That was the final line meant to break me.”

“On the day of the wedding, she leaned close to my ear and quietly told me the truth. She said she had sent Cole. She thought I had really become a powerless man who couldn’t fight back, but she

didn’t know that while she was keeping my parents imprisoned, I had already rallied other shifters and prepared to strike a fatal blow against her and her father.”

“I never expected you to show up before I made my move. I only thought that if you didn’t love me

anymore, I would keep loving you anyway, even if it meant being the other man.”

I pressed my fingertip against his lips. “Shut up. You’re the one and only. I was never with Cole.”
