5 Years of Love Was Just a Disguise The Alpha’s Revenge Was Real Chapter 09

Steven’s voice kept rising at my stand, cutting through the street noise. I watched all that remorse pour out of him and almost laughed.

“Steven, what makes you think I could ever forgive you after everything you did? You think a few apologies are going to erase all of that?”

“How exactly are you going to make up for my ear? You had them drag me to a back-alley clinic and tear my pup out of me. I nearly bled to death.”

“What’s your apology supposed to do about that? You think you can just talk your way out of all of it? That words are enough?”

“I will never forgive you. Not in a million years. Stop looking for me. Stop tracking me down. The sight of you makes me sick.”

I said it all without raising my voice, then yanked my arm back hard. His grip only tightened.

My jaw tightened. I smashed the oranges in my hand against his chest.

Bright orange pulp slid down his head and shoulders. Crushed fruit smeared across a pressed black suit — he looked pathetic.

“Steven, drop the wounded puppy act. It’s disgusting.”

“You don’t love me. You don’t love anyone. You only love yourself.”

I didn’t give him a chance to answer.

I slapped him across the face. The crack echoed down the street.

I’d put everything I had into it. His head snapped sideways, but he didn’t even flinch.

I turned to leave. Behind me, his knees hit the pavement.

“Lydia, one more chance. That’s all I’m asking. You told me once — if I ever screwed up, I should get on my knees and beg. I’m on my knees. So can you forgive me? Just this once?”

Should I forgive him?

A small, cold laugh slipped out of me. I crossed the street without breaking stride.

Behind me, Steven scrambled to his feet and started after me. He made it a few steps before his legs gave out, and he stumbled into the street.

A car came out of nowhere.

The impact was deafening. The car hit him full-on, and his body was dragged several yards across the asphalt.

“Somebody help!”

“There’s been an accident!”

Passersby swarmed around him, phones already out, voices frantic.

“Sir, can you hear me? Call 911! Don’t move him!”

Steven lay in the street, blood pooling at his mouth. He could barely make out what anyone was saying. The only thing he could do was raise one shaking finger, pointing the way I’d gone.

“My mate…”

“My mate…”

“Sir, your mate? Did she go that way? What’s her name?”

They kept asking, but Steven was already out — passed out cold on the pavement.

The next time I heard anything about Steven, I was passing through the regional airport near Silvermoon during a layover.

His face was on every airport screen — a live exclusive interview.

On screen, he sat in a wheelchair, thin enough that the suit hung off his frame. The interview dragged on, and the reporter didn’t go easy on him.

That interview was how I finally learned what had happened.

Silvermoon had been drowning in scandals, spiraling into full-blown crisis. Steven’s father had taken one mistress after another — a third, then a fourth, then a fifth.

After his mother was exposed, she stopped pretending entirely and turned on Steven. She showed up at Silvermoon with her lover and children in tow.

Every day she demanded Steven hand over a share of his inheritance for her twins.

Steven had been fighting them off until he had nothing left. The interview was his attempt to publicly cut ties.

Near the end of the broadcast, a producer rushed onto the set and handed the reporter a folder. She opened it on air. Her face froze.

“Young Alpha Voss, a woman named Amelia sent these photos. She’s demanding compensation. If you don’t pay, she says she’ll release these to the public…”

The livestream’s viewer count exploded — tens of thousands of people flooding in to watch the scandal unfold.

Steven stared at the photos in his hands, his expression murderous.

He lunged for the camera. The feed went black.

I watched it the way you’d watch a bad movie — detached, almost bored. I turned and headed for my gate.

None of it had anything to do with me anymore.

My life stretched out ahead of me, wide open and full of possibility. I was done letting terrible people and terrible memories drag me back.
