5 Years of Love Was Just a Disguise The Alpha’s Revenge Was Real Chapter 08

Blood spread down the white fabric of Amelia’s dress. She was on the ground, face drained of color.

“Steven, the pup… Please — save the pup…”

Steven didn’t look at her. His entire focus was on me. Waiting.

“Steven, you really think my mom’s still sitting around in Silvermoon? She’s long gone.”

“Your threats don’t work on me anymore.”

I turned my back on him and walked through the security checkpoint.

Behind me, Steven lunged after me, but the airport police tackled him to the ground.

I boarded without any trouble and settled into my seat, waiting for takeoff.

The city shrank below me, and somewhere between the skyline and the clouds, it finally sank in. I’d actually left.

I’d left Silvermoon and everything it had done to me behind.

Seven hours later, I touched down in Southridge Pack territory.

The heat hit me the second I stepped outside, and it felt like it burned the pain right out of my skin. I stayed for six months. I stopped following anything about Silvermoon.

For the first time, I let myself breathe. I let myself be free.

That lasted until a group of werewolves checked into the B&B where I was staying. On the first day, they stared at me too long.

I told myself I was imagining it.

A few days later, they pulled out their phones and started taking pictures. I headed toward them, ready to tell them to stop.

But they were already on the phone.

“Silvermoon? We found the girl you’ve been looking for… yeah, right here in Southridge territory…”

The word Silvermoon stopped me cold.

Six months. It felt like another lifetime. I’d almost let myself forget. One word dragged it all back.

I packed up and left the B&B that night, terrified Steven would track me down.

A week went by. Nothing.

A month. Still nothing.

I’d just started to believe I was being paranoid when Steven walked into my little produce stand.

He stood there in a black suit, completely wrong against the warm, sweet air of my little shop.

“Lydia…”

“How’ve you been?”

A voice I used to know better than my own. Now it sounded like a stranger’s.

It took a few seconds for my body to catch up with my brain. I picked up the oranges I’d been sorting and walked past him toward the door.

Steven caught my wrist. When he spoke, his voice was trembling.

“Lydia, I’ve been falling apart. My mom — my real mother — she helped outsiders steal my birthright… Isn’t that hilarious?”

His mouth twisted into a bitter, broken smile, and his eyes were starting to go red.

His hand went to his pocket on instinct — reaching for a cigarette. I flinched and stepped back hard.

His fingers shook, and the cigarette slipped to the ground.

“Lydia, I won’t smoke anymore! Starting right now — I’m done. I’m quitting.”

The words tumbled out of him, desperate. My face didn’t move. I gave him nothing.

“Lydia, my whole life — everything I thought I knew — it was all a lie. My parents’ love for each other — fake. Their love for me — fake…”

“Lydia, you’re the only real thing I’ve ever had. The only real thing…”

“I know I’m the one who destroyed us. But can you come back with me?”

“Amelia’s gone. I got rid of Amelia. She won’t show up again.”

“This time, I swear on my life — it’ll just be us.”
