You Want Me Back? Sorry, Request Rejected Chapter 19

Elise couldn’t help laughing at Isabel’s straightforward thinking. “You’ve got a point.”

Isabel’s eyes lit up in delight. Great—Elise really was getting a divorce. Yay!

Rowan tried calling Elise a few more times, but each call was declined. This was Elise’s first time rejecting his calls since getting him this phone. And she’d done it so many times, too!

He trudged out of the hospital feeling a little hurt, only to see Elise holding Isabel, whom he found annoying, in her arms. She even smiled gently at her.

In the past, Elise only smiled at him and Regina like that.

Rowan clenched his fists as he deliberately walked right past them. Elise saw him and habitually called out, “Ro?”

He ignored her on purpose, huffing as he lifted his chin and marched forward. Whenever he was upset before, Elise would always find a way to appease him. He’d already caught a glimpse of the food container in her hand as well as the insulated thermal flask she usually used for soup.

She sure liked to act high and mighty. If she didn’t take the initiative to apologize this time, he wasn’t going to give in. She had to promise to make soup for Sabrina every day for a whole month, or he would never forgive her!

However, when he reached the end of the path and still didn’t hear Elise call out to him again, he found his act was getting hard to keep up. When he turned around, he saw Elise hug Isabel and wave goodbye. Then, she grabbed her things and headed for a cab.

“Mommy! You’re not allowed to leave!” Rowan couldn’t take it anymore. He rushed over and grabbed Elise.

She calmly pulled her hand back, the smile from moments ago fading. “What is it?”

“Sabrina doesn’t have an appetite because of you. You can’t be this selfish!”

“Oh? Is she secretly in love with me?”

Rowan spluttered, his face flushing red. “She would never like you! Don’t be so full of yourself! You need to go to her right now. Sabrina wants to drink your soup, and you can apologize to her while you’re at it. She’s so kind that she’ll definitely forgive you.”

He eyed the food container in Elise’s hand and tried to tug her along again.

The realization dawned on her when she caught the look in his eyes. She took a few steps back, easily dodging his hand. As he watched, she pulled out the thermal flask, twisted the lid open, and flipped the empty flask upside down over the nearest trash can.

“Stop! Stop it!” Rowan panicked and shouted at the top of his lungs, thinking there was soup inside.

He lunged forward to stop Elise, but she just turned and showed him the “emptied” flask. He was furious and demanded, “Mommy, why have you turned into such a selfish person? You’d rather pour out the soup than let Sabrina have it! You’re awful, and I hate you!”

“You hate me, but you know what? I’m free to hate Sabrina, too,” Elise replied lightly, her lips curved in a faint smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “I’m not giving you this soup. Just imagining someone that I hate drinking it makes me feel sick.”

Rowan’s eyes turned bloodshot, and his chest heaved with anger. She’d never spoken to him this harshly before; his heart ached in a way he’d never felt.

Elise tapped his head and suddenly asked, “If your daddy and I get divorced, who would you choose to live with?”

“Daddy, of course! I would never choose to go with you!” His answer came without a shred of hesitation.

A wave rippled through the cold depths of Elise’s eyes. Her blood ran cold in an instant. She’d known that this was the most likely choice Rowan would make, but hearing him say it out loud so resolutely…

She forced herself to push through the stabbing pain in her chest. After a long moment, she looked him straight in the eye and said quietly, “Alright. Do whatever you want.”

Her lawyer had told her that when the court finalized the divorce, they would take the kids’ wishes into account when deciding custody. She’d clearly been overthinking things. In fact, by now, Calvin should’ve already received the divorce papers.

Rowan couldn’t understand why Elise had suddenly changed so much. She loved Calvin with all her heart. How could she possibly be willing to divorce him?

He’d watched the dramas Sabrina had acted in and had seen situations similar to this one—wives who weren’t loved by their husbands would pretend to demand a divorce just to get his attention, even using their kids to threaten him.

No way he would let Elise get away with that!
