The private room door wasn’t fully closed, as if someone had deliberately left a crack.

I closed my umbrella.

“Adrian, you really kept that woman, Vivian Shaw, by your side?”

“Aren’t you afraid Nora will find out and make a scene?”

Someone asked.

“How could I not be afraid? So all of you better keep your mouths shut.”

“If Nora finds out, she’ll be hurt. I’ll die.”

Adrian’s voice was restrained.

“I don’t get it. You clearly love Nora so much. How could you keep Vivian Shaw on the side?”

“I’ve looked and looked. I don’t see what’s so great about her. She’s nowhere near as pretty as

Nora.”

“What do you know?”

The man laughed lazily.

“When you’re used to steak, sometimes you want to try vegetables.”

Even though I had already prepared myself, hearing Adrian say it still hurt unbearably.

“Nora is good in every way. She’s just spoiled. Sometimes I get tired of coaxing her. I wanted to see

what a gentle, virtuous woman was like.”

“Got it.”

The people around him understood.

He had married a lively wife, but he also wanted a gentle, obedient woman.

Then why did he have to use love to deceive me?

I blinked, forced the sting in my eyes down, and pushed open the door.

Adrian looked like someone I had never seen before.

He leaned lazily against the sofa, his fingers near his lips, casually tossing out a card.

When he heard movement, he didn’t look up. He only asked carelessly, “Why were you gone so

long?”

From the moment I entered the room, the room went silent.

No one spoke.

He realized something was wrong and raised his head.

“Ba… baby, why are you here?”

Adrian looked panicked. He jumped up as if scalded by boiling water, crossed the table, and grabbed

my hand.

“When did you get here? Did you… did you hear anything?”

Before I could answer, he changed the subject.

“It’s raining outside. You could’ve called me, and I would’ve gone home. Nora, if you get sick, my

heart will ache.”

He held my cold hands and warmed them with all his strength.

I stared into his eyes and opened my mouth with pain.

“Who did you just say went out?”

Adrian opened his mouth. Before he could say anything, the private room door opened.

Vivian Shaw stood quietly by the door.

I asked tentatively, “So it was her.”

“Why is she here?”

“Julian brought her. I don’t interfere with that.”

“She’s just someone irrelevant.”

“The person you should be looking at is your husband.”

Adrian said it easily.

“Enough, Nora. I know you miss me when you can’t see me. I miss you too. Baby, let’s go home.”

The woman’s face turned pale, and the disappointment in her eyes flashed past.

I gently pushed him away and smiled sweetly.

“Relax. Jenna and I were passing by, and I suddenly wanted to come up and see what you guys were playing.”

“So that’s it. Don’t worry, Adrian doesn’t need us watching him.”

“If he dares touch even a little bit of another woman, with that sharp nose of yours, how could you

not know?”

My sense of smell had always been sharp. If he had so much as a trace of another woman’s perfume

on him, I could accurately identify which woman it came from.

Every time he came home, he was always clean and fresh.

Clearly, if a man wanted to hide something from you, he had endless ways to do it.

“Besides, Adrian only has eyes and a heart for you. How could he possibly look at another woman?”

His close friend smoothed things over for him.

“You talk too much.”

Adrian lightly punched him.

Then he lowered his head and looked at me.

“You really don’t need me to take you home?”

“No. Have fun.”

I thought for a moment, then spoke.

“Jenna wants to look at a house. Adrian, give me some money.”

Without a word, he took out a check and signed it.

“Don’t overthink it. Buy whatever kind of place you want.”

I took the check and glanced calmly at Vivian Shaw.

She lowered her head slightly, gentle as a shadow, standing there as if she would never be noticed.

Quiet.

Obedient.
