You Kept the Don’s Daughter Waiting and Now She’s Someone Else’s Chapter 13

Per family tradition, we had to go back for dinner every week. I brought Damon back to our usual apartment

in the city.

That day, my mother had cooked up a feast since early morning.

Damon walked in loaded down with bags, and my father gave him a look.

“Buying so much, what for?”

Damon grinned. “I stole your princess. First official visit, I couldn’t show up empty-handed.”

My father snorted, but he still reached out and took the bags.

After dinner, I went out for a walk with my mom.

The moment we stepped out of the apartment building, I saw Luca.

He’d lost weight in just a few days.

Stubble darkened his jaw, and his eyes were bloodshot.

When he saw me, he straightened immediately.

“Nina.”

I didn’t stop.

I walked right past him like he wasn’t there.

Luca raised a hand to stop me, but it froze halfway.

“Nina, I want to talk to you.”

Damon had come down from upstairs without me noticing.

He stood by the entrance, holding the scarf I’d left behind.

He didn’t come over right away. Just watched us quietly.

I turned to Luca.

“There’s nothing to talk about.”

Luca’s throat moved.

“I know you hate me. But I really know I was wrong.

“Coral’s not staying at my place anymore. I’m not going to contact her.”

“I told my parents the whole thing. The wedding being called off was my fault. Nina, can you…”

His voice dropped lower.

“Can you give me one more chance?”

I looked at him.

This man, I’d loved him for seven years.

From college, through joining the family business.

I’d pictured him so many times, standing at the end of the aisle in his suit, waiting for me.

But when the day actually came, he hadn’t waited.

Now he was begging me to come back.

Too late.

“Luca. I’m already married.”

His eyes went red.

“I know. But you and Damon… it’s only been days, and you…

“So what if it’s days?”

I cut him off.

“At least when I needed him, he showed up.

“But you, when I needed you, you chose someone else.”

Luca’s face went ashen.

I turned and walked into the building.

Damon draped the scarf over my shoulders and asked softly, “Cold?”

I shook my head.

He didn’t ask if I was upset.

He just took my hand.

I glanced back once.

Luca was still standing there.

Wind rustled the leaves, scattering them across his shoulders.

But there was nothing left in my heart for him.

Some people, you miss them, and that’s it.

No apology can bring back that 12:30.

As for Coral, things didn’t’go well for her either.

I’d recommended her to join the family business under my name.

But after word spread about what she’d done at my wedding, no one in the family gave her any respect.

At first, it was just quiet gossip in the break room.

“Did you hear? Coral pulled that stunt at Princess Nina’s wedding.”

“Heard it? I was there.”

“She made the groom hold her makeup bag, said her eyeliner was smudged, and insisted on fixing it.”

“For three hundred years, brides of the Conti family have always been fetched by the groom in person, and the departure must take place at half past twelve. Yet she insisted on touching up her makeup in those final

minutes.”

“God, is she insane?”

“The worst part is, the Russo family actually waited for her. So ridiculous!”

“I think there was something going on between those two.”

“Thank god our princess didn’t marry Luca. Otherwise, I’d be worried about the family’s future…”

Those words spread fast.

Coral tried to defend herself at first.

“That’s not how it was.”

“I was just the maid of honor. I wanted to look presentable.”

“Luca and I are friends! What’s wrong with him holding my bag?”

Someone laughed coldly.

“Friends? You want to look presentable, so the bride doesn’t? Do you even treat her like a friend? No one’s lucky to have a friend like you.”

Another voice chimed in.

“That wasn’t smudged eyeliner. That was just you being shameless.”

Coral was shaking with anger.

“How can you say that about me? Nina was the one who ran off impulsively! Why are you blaming me?”
