Wrong Way, Wrong Mate Chapter 06

Fifteen hours later, on the other side of the ocean, I arrive at Lycan Royal Airport.

I wheel my suitcase out of the arrivals hall and immediately spot the people waiting to greet incoming students.

A beautiful, athletic Lycan student holds up a large welcome sign with my name printed clearly on it.

[WELCOME, WILLOW BELLROSE]

The moment she sees me, she breaks into a bright smile and hurries over, offering to take my heavy

suitcase.

“Willow Bellrose, right? I’m Eloise Carbone, an Orientation Leader at AFA. I’m here to pick you up! You must be exhausted. Let’s get you to your dorm. Your single room is already arranged.”

I stare at the sign with my name spelled correctly, and my eyes suddenly sting.

For the first time in my life, in a place where I don’t know a single soul, someone has waited for me at the right place without getting anything wrong.

Meanwhile, back in the werewolf realm, a recording of the livestream from the abandoned academic building has already been saved by outraged students and uploaded to the campus forum.

Within two hours, the post shoots to the top of the trending list.

Its original title, Freshman Prank, is replaced with something far more damning.

Lunaris Academy Upperclassmen Bully Freshman for Being Bad with Directions.

In the video, the abandoned building is dimly lit.

I tremble in the darkness, miss a step, and tumble down the stairs. Blood pours from my palm, stark against the cold light of my phone’s flashlight.

The comment section explodes.

“You call this a joke? This is straight-up assault!”

“They knew she was afraid of enclosed spaces and still locked her inside an abandoned building? What the hell is wrong with these people?”

Soon, students from the academy who know what really happened begin speaking out.

“I was there on the first day of school. That girl, Lacey, deliberately sent Willow to the old campus and made her walk three extra miles for nothing!”

More students from Darkhowl Pack come forward with their own stories.

“During our senior trip, those four deliberately abandoned Willow at an unfamiliar tourist attraction just to

watch her cry while trying to find her way!”

The backlash grows by the minute, and Lacey’s social media accounts are quickly flooded with furious

comments.

Panicking, she publishes a lengthy apology late that night. But between the lines, it’s nothing but self-pity.

“I really just wanted to help Willow have some fun and fit in with everyone.”

“I had no idea she would fall, and I never expected her to be so sensitive.”

“If I’d known she’d retaliate against me by withdrawing from school, I wish I’d been the one locked inside that building instead.”

When Paxton sees the post, his first instinct is to share it and defend Lacey.

But his finger stops over the screen as an image suddenly flashes through his mind: me standing there with blood covering my hand, staring at him with cold, wounded eyes.

Is this how you show me you care?

Paxton’s finger freezes in midair. For the first time, he doesn’t hit the share button.

Zane sees the video, too. He stares at the moment I fall, the color gradually draining from his face. In the end, he says nothing.

Nathan, meanwhile, calls Lacey directly, “DELETE that disgusting post.”

On the other end of the line, Lacey bursts into tears.

“Nathan, are you blaming me, too? When we came up with the idea, none of you objected!”

“Didn’t you say yourself that this would help Willow stop being such a closed-off little bookworm?”

Her words land like a slap across Nathan’s face.

He grips his phone, his knuckles turning white.

Only now does he finally see himself for what he is.

He isn’t some innocent bystander who had nothing to do with what happened. He’s one of the most shameless participants in the bullying.

He used I’m only doing this for your own good as an excuse to let Lacey get away with one cruel act after another.

“Delete it.”

Nathan’s voice is so hoarse that it sounds almost desperate.

“You’re not apologizing. You’re still trying to make this her fault.”

The school’s disciplinary decisions come down soon afterward.

Lacey receives a formal disciplinary warning for organizing an unauthorized livestream, violating another student’s privacy, and causing physical harm.

Paxton is suspended from all his student government positions.

Nathan loses the crucial recommendation points he would have received when applying to graduate programs during his junior year because of his role in planning the prank.

The academic advisor forwards the disciplinary decisions to me by email. At the end, she cautiously asks:

“Ms. Bellrose, the school would like to arrange a private mediation session. Would you be willing to accept their apologies?”

I’m sitting in the bright library at Apex Fang Academy. Outside the window, the sky is a brilliant blue, and a

few birds dart across the lawn.

I type my reply, my tone calm and firm.

“Please handle this matter according to school policy. I will not participate in any form of private mediation.”

After hitting send, I close my laptop and join the classmates I’ve recently met on their way to the student dining hall.

Meanwhile, Nathan sits alone in his empty dorm room.

He opens a folder on his computer containing photos collected over more than a decade and begins looking

through them one by one.

Suddenly, he notices something he’d never paid attention to before.

In almost every group photo, I’m standing at the very edge.

And Lacey is always in the center, surrounded by Nathan, Paxton, and Zane, who seem to form a protective wall around her.

He has always believed he’s given me more than enough special treatment.

Only now does he finally understand.

What he called favoritism toward me was nothing more than his own delusion from beginning to end.
