While Watching Drama, the Heroine Warned Me About My Best Friend Chapter 09

When he reached the last page, he turned to look at Celia.

She opened her mouth, tears rolling down her cheeks. “Honey, let me explain-it’s not what you

think…”

The old woman rolled her eyes and launched into a tirade. “I also know that right after you asked my son for that IVF money, that pretty boy of yours went and bought himself a brand-new car. Probably paid for with my son’s hard-earned cash, don’t you think?”

She grew angrier as she spoke, rising from her chair, hands on her hips, pointing at Celia. “You two -you schemed together, played my son for a fool, and cuckolded him! He’s been working his ass off year after year, and you took his money to rent hotel rooms for your lover and tried to pin the blame on an innocent girl!”

“I’ve seen shameless people in my life, but the two of you take the prize.”

I broke out in a cold sweat beside them. That blame had nearly landed on me.

Frank kicked his chair aside and raised his right hand high.

Celia screamed in terror, curling into a ball. “Frank, please don’t hit me! I know I was wrong! I really do! I just got confused for a moment. Please forgive me this one time-I promise I’ll never

see him again…”

She was shaking like a leaf, babbling incoherently. “I swear, I’ll never do it again…”

Frank’s fist hung in the air, veins bulging on his arm. After a long while, he slowly lowered it.

Celia froze for a moment, then reached out to grab his pant leg. “Honey, I promise-nothing like this will ever happen again.”

He stepped back. She grabbed empty air.

“I see it now,” he said. “You and that Erving have been having an affair for a while, haven’t you?”

Celia’s sobs hitched.

Frank crouched down to her level. “First you lied about the two hundred thousand. Then you got pregnant with his bastard. On the train, you staged a fall and a miscarriage to frame Vera. Once Vera was blamed for causing your miscarriage, I’d be so enraged I’d strangle her-then I’d go to prison for murder. And then you and Erving would be free to be together. Isn’t that right?”

Celia’s face was completely white. Her lips trembled, but she couldn’t utter a word.

Frank stood up, expressionless. “You calculated everything perfectly. You even figured out my temper.”

Celia finally broke down crying again. “I didn’t… I really didn’t think that far…”

The old woman nodded, a faint smile finally appearing at the corner of her mouth. “The blockhead

finally gets it.”

The meal ended on a sour note. Frank sued them both.

Prenatal reports, hotel records, bank statements-all neatly filed in a dossier.

On the day of the trial, the old woman sat on a bench, her expression calm. When she saw me, she patted the seat beside her.

“Sit down. This time, it’s your turn to be my witness. Our evidence is solid-neither of those two is

getting away.”

I nodded and smiled. When it was my turn to testify, I recounted everything that had happened on

the train from start to finish.

When Celia was brought in, she had dark circles under her eyes and her cheekbones were sunken from weight loss. Erving followed behind, head down, his face ashen.

After the trial concluded, the judge’s steady voice echoed through the courtroom.

“Defendant Celia Gray, with the intent to illegally obtain property, fabricated the fact of undergoing IVF to defraud the plaintiff, Frank Foster, of two hundred thousand yuan. On the train, she staged a miscarriage and invented the false claim that defendant Vera Hartwell intentionally injured her,

constituting the crime of false accusation.”

“Defendant Erving Chase, knowing that Celia Gray had fabricated the facts, still provided false

testimony and participated in the joint fraud…”

In the end, Celia was sentenced to seven years in prison for fraud and false accusation, with

concurrent penalties. Erving, as an accomplice, received five years.

As Celia was being led out by the bailiffs, she suddenly twisted her head toward me as she passed the gallery. “Vera, you must be so pleased with yourself now. I’ll never forgive you, even if I become

a ghost!”

The bailiff tugged her forward, and she stumbled and staggered out.

The gallery gradually emptied, and I stood up to leave. Celia’s curses left no ripples in my heart.

Frank walked over slowly, scratching his head, looking embarrassed. “Vera… I’m sorry about what happened in the hospital that day…”

I waved it off. “It’s in the past.”

The old woman patted Frank on the back from behind. “Alright, let’s go home and braise some ribs for your mother.”

I turned and walked in the direction of home.

That night, I dreamed of the female lead again. She gave me a faint smile and then slowly faded

away.

I suddenly opened my eyes. Outside the window, the morning light was bright.

After the storm comes rebirth. From now on, I would savor every sunny day.
