While He Waited in Aspen, I Married His Rival Chapter 11

I was just finishing with my wedding dress when my little nephew, Jack, burst in like a gust of wind, holding a wild rose he’d picked from the edge of the ranch.

“Aunt Ava! Uncle Ethan told me to give this to you!”

I took the flower. A small card was tied to its stem.

“Ava, I know that right now you’re in your grandfather’s room, about to become my bride.”

“But it still feels like a dream.”

“When I wake up, I’ll still be the Ethan from the college rodeo, secretly watching you and Liam walk by together.”

An image from years ago flashed in my mind: Liam and me, strolling across the University of Montana campus.

His eyes had been full of me, so focused that he’d almost walked into a bench. I’d laughingly tugged him back.

Pretending to be angry, I’d tapped the tip of his nose.

“Liam, watch where you’re going.”

He caught my finger, lowered his head, and kissed it.

“Why would I look at the scenery when I can look at you?”

Back then, I naively believed love could bridge the cultural gap between us. I never imagined that the greatest storm of my life would be brought on by him.
