A flush crept up Chloe’s cheeks. A flash of poorly concealed anticipation crossed her eyes as she instinctively took a step closer to Liam.

That glimmer of hope only made Liam more irritable.

He pushed his mother’s hand away, his voice hard as iron.

“No. My wife is Ava. I made that clear when I proposed.”

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, making excuses for me.

“The weather in Montana is unpredictable. A snowstorm probably delayed takeoff.”

As he spoke, he dialed the VIP line, his tone leaving no room for argument.

“Check the flight for Miss Ava Monroe. I want her exact landing time.”

The representative on the other end searched for a moment, then replied in a polite, distant voice.

“Sir, our records show that Miss Monroe has not booked any flight to Aspen.”

Liam’s brow furrowed.

“Impossible.”

“Yes, sir,” the representative continued. “Miss Monroe’s flight plan did change, but it wasn’t a destination change. She moved her original trip to yesterday and arrived last night at eight o’clock… at Bozeman Airport in Montana.”

Bozeman? Back to Montana?

Liam’s eyes widened. His mind went blank.

Before he could process the blow, his assistant rushed over, his face pale, his voice shaking.

“Mr. Henderson! The legal department… they received an urgent email from Miss Monroe’s legal team. It’s been copied to our entire board.”

Liam’s heart sank.

The assistant looked like he was about to be sick. He turned his phone screen toward Liam, pointing at the glaring subject line.

“The legal notice is titled… ‘Statement of Engagement Termination and Water Rights Merger’!”
