When the Sacrifice Became the Reaper Chapter 07

Chapter 7 Family Secrets Exposed

Fiordier

I revealed, “My sweet mother, your darling girl pawned every piece of your jewelry-dowry included. Dad, remember getting fired for pocketing gifts? That was her ‘tiny punishment’ because you forgot her present.”

With each revelation, Richard and Linda turned green then white, ready to spit blood.

“Oh, almost forgot the best part.” I handed Marcus a photo. “Cynthia Hart could’ve survived her car crash, but Isabelle delayed the ambulance so you’d focus on her instead. She waited until Cynthia stopped breathing before calling for help.”

Marcus staggered back two steps, nearly collapsing.

Isabelle lunged forward, shaking her head. “Dad, Mom, Marcus, don’t believe her. Elena’s just bitter that Leon loved me.”

No one comforted her anymore; every gaze was sharp with suspicion. Prodded by the pressure, Isabelle lunged for the remaining files in my hand and tore them apart like a woman unhinged. “I didn’t! I swear I didn’t! You forged every one of those pages!”

I only shrugged. “Rip away. I’ve got plenty of copies.”

Isabelle shot me a murderous glare, then clamped onto Linda’s arm. “Mom, you know me best. How could I ever do something so vicious?” Linda’s gaze wavered. She had cherished this daughter for over twenty years. Naturally, her heart ached-even though the evidence moments ago looked painfully authentic.

“Save the speeches for home-or your prison cell. I don’t have time to waste.”

The wail of sirens cut through my words, and officers cuffed Isabelle. “Miss Isabelle Walker, you’re under suspicion of using and trafficking drugs. Please come with us.”

Isabelle’s face drained of color. “I’m innocent! This is all a setup! Elena, it’s you, isn’t it? You framed me!”

I offered a mild smile. “A lab test will settle it.”

When the show was over, I got in my car and drove away.

With Isabelle behind bars, Leon immediately shoved every crooked ledger and project onto her shoulders, telling the press she had trapped him with a pregnancy and threatened him with the child’s life unless he divorced me.

To keep up his soulful façade, Leon professed his undying love to me in front of reporters and even knelt outside my building, begging forgiveness. He somehow learned about my follow-up appointment and ambushed me at the hospital.

“Elena, I was wrong. Hit me, curse me-just don’t leave me.”

The world remains absurdly lenient with men; after barely two weeks of theater, people began defending the jerk. “Leon was set up. What couple never argues?” they said. “You’ve shared over ten years together. Don’t let outsiders tear you apart.”

The chatter grated on my nerves, and I let out a cold laugh. “Soulful? Faithful? Please, I’m no fool. Leon, did you think your filthy deeds would stay buried forever?”

Leon’s brows jerked together, his smile freezing. “Elena, Isabelle did all that behind my back. I knew nothing.”

“Did you assume I’d run out of evidence?” I asked, lips curling. “A cat likes to toy with the mouse-give it hope, snuff it out, then watch the despair.”

He stumbled backward, suddenly staring at me as if I were a stranger.

A glint of steel flashed. Out of nowhere, he produced a knife and lunged. “B*tch! If I’m going to hell, you’re coming with me!”

I was too stunned to move, but Evan blocked the blade with his body and folded me into his arms.

Chaos erupted in the payment hall-patients screamed, papers flew-but all I could hear was Evan’s ragged breathing and smell the sharp tang of blood.

“Evan, you are not allowed to die!”

My hands came away slick with his blood, panic choking my voice. “Why would you run at him? I’m not worth it… You’re just as reckless as you were back then.”
