When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 10

When the Luna Falls Asleep Chapter 10

Allison’s POV

Jonathan stood before me with an unshaven face and deep shadows under his eyes, as if he hadn’t slept properly in a long time.

My parents were the same—eyes red-rimmed, more white hair than I remembered, their backs slightly bent with age.

I lowered my gaze and pretended not to see them, about to walk past, when my mother gently grabbed my hand.

“Allison… I missed you so much. How have you been?”

Her voice broke with emotion.

“You’ve finally recovered… that’s wonderful. Come home with me, back to the pack. I’ve restored your room exactly the way it was. I still owe you a Barbie birthday cake—let me celebrate your birthday properly this time, okay?”

My chest tightened, a sour ache spreading through me.

Her grip was firm, as if afraid I would disappear again the next second.

My father chimed in beside her.

“Your mother and I think about you every day. From now on, we’ll be a family again…”

“Dad. Mom. I’m not going back.”

I gently pulled my hand free.

“I’m doing fine now. I have a job that supports me. I’m not going back. Besides… that’s not my home anymore.”

“It is your home!” my mother rushed to explain.

“We were confused back then, that’s why we adopted Chloe. We’ve cut all ties with her. That’s your home—you grew up there. How could it not be your home?”

Her voice slowly weakened.

But broken glass could not become whole again. Even if everything was restored, the damage had already been done. It couldn’t simply be erased.

“Allison… I’ve broken the mate bond with her,” Jonathan said hoarsely, his voice rough like it had been scraped by sandpaper.

“I didn’t keep the child either. The Luna position is still yours.”

He looked at me, eyes red.

“Can you… give me a chance to start over?”

Seeing him again, I thought my heart would hurt.

But instead, I felt an unexpected calm.

“I read your diary,” he continued, voice trembling. “I’m such a bastard. I only saw my own pain… I never realized you were suffering even more than I was.”

He buried his face in his hands.

“I’ll give you the most grand Luna coronation. I’ll let everyone witness our love again—”

“Jonathan.” I interrupted him, “I don’t hate you.”

My voice was steady.

“You really did give me warmth when I was sick. But after everything that happened… I’m tired. I don’t love you anymore.”

“Let’s just be strangers.”

“You don’t need to build your life around me anymore. You should live your own life too.”

“No… I can’t live without you—”

“But when I was asleep, didn’t you live just fine without me too?”

Jonathan fell silent.

His head lowered completely.

I walked past them without looking back, putting distance between us step by step.

I thought that day would be the end of it—that they would finally understand and return to their lives in the pack.

But they didn’t.

My parents rented a place near me and came every day, watching from afar without daring to approach.

I knew they were there. I just didn’t avoid them.

Every mealtime, a packed lunch would appear outside my studio—filled with all my favorite foods.

I knew it was them.

Eating familiar flavors made my eyes burn, but I never called them in.

Maybe only time could heal what was broken in my heart—and no one knew how long that would take.

Sometimes, when I worked late into the night, I could feel a shadow following behind me at a distance, until I reached home, then quietly disappearing.

I knew it was Jonathan.

I didn’t know when he would stop.

But that was no longer my concern.

Wainwright & Co. also extended an offer to me.

They apologized, saying they had failed to discover that Chloe had stolen my portfolio, and that she had already been dismissed. They asked if I wanted to rejoin the company.

I declined.

Although I still admired Wainwright & Co., I now had my own path.

Everything was getting better.

A sleeping beauty doesn’t need a prince’s kiss to wake up.

And her ending… was still a happily ever after.
