When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 08

When the Alpha Chose His Pack Over His Mate Chapter 08

My eyes unconsciously searched for the spot where she always sat.

Empty.

Only the old chair remained.

After a long while, I finally gathered myself and slowly made my way to the desk.

I reached for the pen and paper, intending to write a request to the Lycan Princess for a day off to arrange the welcome ceremony.

As I did, a book beside my hand fell to the floor with a soft thud.

I bent down to pick it up, only to find a yellowed sheet of paper slipping out from between the pages.

It was one of her early attempts at writing my name—Rowen.

The letters were crooked and uneven.

Back then, she had practiced writing my name over and over by moonlight.

Even when life improved, she couldn’t bear to throw away these old sheets of paper.

Each one was carefully wrapped in tissue and stored in a polished oak box. She would take them out and look through them during her free time.

As if through those letters, she could relive the moments we had shared…

How foolish.

But why was this one still here?

I flipped through the book and realized it was the one I had gifted her, *Modern Poetry and Prose*.

I remembered not long ago, she had excitedly discussed the poem “Entangled Emotions” with me, diving deep into the meaning behind the words…

So, she had used this practice sheet as a bookmark.

My thoughts drifted far away.

I forgot what I had originally intended to do.

Until Zen, my Beta, came in to report, “The east wing has been cleared out. Miss Ivy’s unfinished knitting and her personal belongings are still there. What would you like me to do with them?”

My fingers paused over the page I was holding.

After a long silence, I finally spoke, “Store them in the storage room for now. Be careful not to damage anything.”

“Yes, Alpha…” Zen responded, but he didn’t leave immediately.

Hesitating for a moment, he added softly, “But the storage room is damp and dark. Those items might not last long…”

“Perhaps we could clear out the spare room in the west wing. It’s sunny and well-ventilated. Her belongings would be better preserved there.”

I frowned. “She’s my Luna. Her things can’t just be casually stored in the west wing. Even if it’s unused, it’s not considered the main quarters in this packhouse.”

My voice carried an inexplicable stubbornness, as if placing her things in the wrong spot would betray her all over again.

Zen looked troubled. “Alpha, with so much going on right now, the east wing is near the main hall, and there’s a lot of foot traffic. It’s not convenient to set aside a room just for these things…”

I couldn’t think of a proper solution either.

In the past, Ivy had taken care of everything in the packhouse. She always knew how to arrange things perfectly.

These matters never fell to me.

But now that she was gone, even the simple task of deciding where to store her belongings left me at a loss.

Zen stood quietly by, waiting for me to make a decision.

“Just put them in the storage room for now. We’ll figure it out later.”

Zen nodded. “Understood, Alpha. I’ll make the arrangements.”

I leaned back in my chair and let out a long sigh.

I carefully picked up the sheet of paper with my name on it, intending to place it back into the polished oak box where she kept her “treasures.”

But then I let out a bitter laugh.

She had always cherished that box. If she had decided to leave, she would have taken it with her.

With that thought, I slipped the paper back into *Modern Poetry and Prose* and set the book aside.
