When Love Turns the Knife by Miley Chapter 05

Chapter 5 When the Truth Exploded

Winston seemed utterly unfazed by my cold words.

He lifted my hand, pulled a ring from his pocket, and firmly slid it onto my ring finger. His voice was gentle, almost tender, as he spoke. “Silly girl. Why didn’t you come to me if you were strapped for cash? Don’t sell something this important ever again, okay?”

I had to rein in my temper as I struggled to sit up in bed.

I didn’t even care that an IV needle was still in my other hand as I yanked off the ring he had forced onto me and hurled it away.

“Winston, I want a divorce. Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? I want a divorce!”

Blood slowly flowed back into the IV line on the back of my hand. In truth, pain like this no longer fazed me. My life had been filled with nothing but pain ever since I was born.

It was just that this man before me had dealt the fatal blow.

Now, everything hurt so badly that I felt like I was dying. Honestly, I’ve long begun to long for death.

I ripped out the IV needle and stared at him coldly. Then, I demanded coldly, “Winston, will you finally let me go once I’m dead?”

He looked at the blood seeping from my hand. His pupils seemed to dilate at the sight. He enunciated each word, spitting them out through gritted teeth. “Don’t you ever say that word again. You’ll live to a hundred. I won’t let you leave me.’

Live to a hundred, huh? Was that even possible?

I closed my eyes and lay back down. I didn’t want to look at him anymore.

After a long time, I finally heard the door open and close. When he left, I didn’t hesitate to grab my phone and make a call.

“I’m giving you the green light. Release all the evidence.”

The man on the other end sounded faintly amused. “Good to know. Here’s to a landslide victory.”

I hadn’t wanted to waste the last stretch of my life entangled with that disgusting man and woman. I had planned to let Victor

release the evidence of what they’d done to me after I was gone.

Alas, Winston was like a leech.

I couldn’t stand the thought that I’d be associated with a man like that even after I’m dead. The thought of being buried under a

tombstone with Mrs. Holt etched on it made me choke with resentment.

That afternoon, a headline shot to the top of every trending list.

‘Holt Group Heir Secretly Harvests Wife’s Uterus to Save His First Love

Surgical records from years ago, chat logs between the despicable pair, and my medical reports came together to form a complete and horrifying story.

Holt Group’s stock plummeted. The board of directors rushed out an emergency statement, stripping Winston of his position.

At the same time, Madeline appeared in glamorous fashion at a charity event as the chairwoman of the Maddie Charity Foundation.

For years, the public had worshipped her as a guardian angel of charity. They had been their darling, wealthy socialite.

I watched the live broadcast where she was suddenly surrounded by reporters as they bombarded her with question after question.

“Is it true that you stole your sister’s uterus?”

“Were there any other victims aside from your sister? How many people have you hurt over the years just to stay alive?”

“You’re so enthusiastic about helping underprivileged children. Was that actually a cover for you to pick out future organs for yourself?”

Madeline had been pampered her entire life. She had never been humiliated like this. She clutched her ears and screamed in panic, “I didn’t do it! I didn’t! She agreed to everything willingly!”

My biological mother, Grace Lynn, suddenly shoved her way into the scene, her face twisted with fury as she shouted, “Isn’t it only right for a younger sister to help her sick older sister? I never would’ve had a second child if Madeline hadn’t fallen ill.

“Madeline gave her life in the first place. What’s wrong with asking her to give a little more?”

Someone in the crowd hurled a bottle at them. It smashed into Madeline’s face, splashing her with a yellow liquid.

“That’s so f*cking disgusting! Seriously, f*ck that! I can’t listen to this anymore.”

“Does Madison’s life not count as a life?”

Soon, more bottles and cans flew through the air.

The reporters scattered. Madeline and Grace clung to each other in terror, dodging the downpour of projectiles as they scurried away like rats being chased to the sewers.
