Wed To The Mafia, Wedded To Revenge Chapter 09

Wed To The Mafia, Wedded To Revenge Chapter 09

I moved out of the marital home soon after.

Liliana landed on the trending list once again, this time alongside me, De Santis Group, Cassian, and Moreau Group.

Moreau Group publicly cut all ties with Liliana that morning and released an official statement denying any romantic connection between Cassian and her.

No other brands dared to work with her after the announcement. She lost dozens of endorsements within hours.

Liliana held a tearful interview afterward. She admitted she had bribed a member of Cassian’s household staff to get his schedule all along. Every staged meeting and ambiguous photo had been her doing.

I paid no attention to the chaos online. Now that Matteo’s justice was served, the driving force behind my life was gone.

I wanted the divorce finalized quickly.

I walked down to the car parked outside De Santis Group and pulled open the passenger door.

I handed the divorce papers to Cassian once I sat inside.

“We signed prenuptial agreements years ago, so this will be simple. I used you, and I take full responsibility. I want none of your assets. I will also transfer the Moreau Group shares gifted to me by my grandfather back to you.”

Cassian’s eyes locked onto mine, growing icy cold.

“Do you understand what a divorce means for the Moreau family?” His voice dropped to a low rumble.

“Every enemy we have will see that my wife no longer stands under my protection.”

I frowned, genuinely confused by his stance.

“Does it matter even if I only ever saw you as a replacement for Matteo?”

Cassian’s hands tightened into fists on his lap.

“No,” he gritted out.

I sighed deeply. I could not comprehend his reasoning.

“Seraphina De Santis,” he said slowly, “was I nothing more than a tool for your revenge? Discarded once your goal was achieved? What was this marriage to you? We got along well enough all these years.”

“Got along well?” I interrupted him. “We scheduled our meetings through aides. We do not even know each other’s likes and dislikes.”

“Cassian,” I took a deep breath, “you ask what this marriage meant to me. What did it mean to you?”

He fell silent, stunned.

“It was a scheme for me. A business deal for you. We were never each other’s first choice.”

I let out a self-deprecating laugh and set the papers beside him.

“Sign them when you’re ready.”

I stepped out of the car and left.

I did not see Cassian for the next two days. I assumed he was carefully considering everything I had said.

He called me on the third day.

“Let’s meet.”

“Can we reschedule?” I asked softly. That day marked the anniversary of Matteo’s death.

He stayed quiet for a long while.

“May I come with you?”

I glanced out the window and spotted him standing beside his car. I walked outside as he crushed a cigarette under his shoe and walked toward me.

“Let’s go.”

He wore a tired, defeated expression.

Matteo was buried in a cemetery on the outskirts of the city. All the headstones here were plain and unmarked.

I placed a bouquet of flowers beside the eighth grave in the second row.

“Can you tell me what he was like?” Cassian asked quietly.

His question pulled me back into old memories.

“He was cheerful, always laughing, loyal to everyone he knew. Everyone in the group home adored him.”

I brushed my fingers gently over the dark stone.

“He could have become an incredible police officer. But Damian destroyed all of that.”

Matteo’s life ended when he was only twenty-two years old.

A soft breeze swept through the air. I heard Cassian murmur under his breath.

“He and I are nothing alike.”
