We Shared a Body They Chose Her Every Time Chapter 07

“Sophia!” Liam’s heart nearly stopped.

He didn’t even look at her. He carefully picked up the two broken pieces of the card, his fingers trembling.

Sophia was hurt and angry.

She bit her lip. “I’m sorry, Liam. It was an accident.”

He glanced at his apologetic sister. In that moment, he couldn’t stand the sight of her.

He turned and went out the door to find Dr. Cross.

His eyes were desperate.

“Dr. Cross, is there any way to call Emily’s soul back?”

I shuddered, fear rising up in me instantly.

No. I didn’t want to go back.

Dr. Cross looked right past Liam, and his eyes landed on me.

My chest tightened. Could he see me?

“No. I forgot to tell you. Both souls had one chance to choose death willingly. Your sister Emily made that

choice.”

Then he disappeared.

Liam stood alone at the door, feeling as if his heart was being ripped open.

Suicide. The word made it hard for him to breathe.

What had they done all these years to make a twenty-year-old girl choose death, choose to disappear?

I just watched in silence.

I didn’t feel any of the old love anymore. That love, that bond, had been cut a long time ago, every time they

chose Sophia over me. Every single time.

After that, Sophia took my place completely, becoming the only one in that body.

But when school started, all the problems surfaced.

She couldn’t do any of the math problems in the Fairmont honors program.

She didn’t know where the power switch was on the lab equipment.

“Sophia, what is wrong with you?”

After she failed to balance the centrifuge again, her professor slammed a book down on the desk and yelled

at her.

“You’ve been like a different person for the last month. And you’ve gotten impossibly stupid.”

“An unbalanced centrifuge can kill someone. Get out!”

Sophia was miserable. No one had ever treated her like this before.

Emily used to do all of this; Sophia didn’t know how.

As she walked out of the lab, another student came up to her with a textbook.

“Sophia, can you explain that problem set again? I forgot what you said last time.”

Sophia looked down. The problems in the book looked like a foreign language. She couldn’t understand a

single one.

She snatched the book and threw it on the ground.

“Why would I help you? Get away from me.”

The girl was startled, and her boyfriend stepped in and shoved Sophia hard.

“What is your problem? If you don’t want to help, fine. Who do you think you are?”

“You’ve been yelled at by professors a dozen times this month. You think you’re some kind of genius? You’re

an idiot.”

Sophia fell to the ground, her mind spinning.

Genius? Idiot? She shook her head and whispered to herself. “No. I’m not an idiot. I’m a genius. Emily is the

idiot.”

The other students stepped back.

“Holy shit! What’s wrong with her? Who’s Emily?”

“That’s scary. She’s been acting crazy since the beginning of the month.”

I crossed my arms and watched Sophia sob on the ground.

I felt nothing but satisfaction.

She had spent all those years enjoying the rewards of my work without studying a single day.

Of course she couldn’t keep up at a place like Fairmont, where everyone was a genius.

I wanted to see how long it would take for her to get expelled.

Because Sophia was doing so badly, the school called my parents and brother, and they took her home.

As soon as she walked in the door, Sophia fell apart on the couch, sobbing uncontrollably.

“I don’t know how to do any of that stuff. Just bring Emily back.”

She couldn’t take it anymore, the boring labs, the problem sets, the way other students looked at her She just wanted to go out and have fun, like before.

“Emily did this on purpose. She knew I couldn’t do it, and she still got into this stupid school. She’s always hated me.”

My eyes went wide, shocked by how shameless Sophia was.

When she was accepting praise for my work, she never had a problem with it.

My parents and brother were shocked too.

In the past month, they had seen how useless Sophia was and finally realized that the brilliant sister had always been me.

When they heard what Sophia said, Liam closed his eyes and slapped her across the face.

“Shut up.”
