We Shared a Body They Chose Her Every Time Chapter 04

Sophia was already asleep. My parents and brother were in the next room, staring at the wooden spinner

box.

“In theory, it should be one month each,” my mother said. “Are we still going to cheat?”

My brother thought for a moment. “Draw the short card. It’s never exactly fifty-fifty anyway. Emily never said anything all these years, did she?”

“Whether we cheat or let it be fate, it’s the same. Draw the short one.”

“We can draw the long one next time.”

My parents nodded.

He pulled out the short card. The psychic’s power inside it would bring Sophia forward and push me into sleep.

They left.

None of them noticed that this time, the long card had cracked.

I gave a bitter smile. I couldn’t understand why they hated me so much.

The next morning, Sophia was overjoyed when she woke up. She ran downstairs and threw herself into my

brother’s arms.

“Yes. It’s me again.”

My parents’ eyes were soft.

My brother smiled. “Of course it is. You’re our lucky girl.”

She grinned proudly. Then something occurred to her. “Oh, next month we have summer survival training,

and it’s going to be so hot. So next month you have to draw Emily.”

Liam nodded. “Don’t worry. We don’t want you to suffer either. Emily will take next month.”

I stood to the side and clenched my hands. A hollow ache spread through my chest.

This was how it had been for twenty years.

Every hard thing, every injury, every punishment, I took it. All the praise, the love, the good times, they went to

her.

I was nothing but Sophia’s shield and her punching bag.

Tears fell down my face before I could stop them.

I closed my eyes. Even my soul was in pain.

My parents and brother took her to Alaska to see the northern lights They soaked in hot springs

They went to Napa Valley for hot air balloon rides

They went mountainboarding in Colorado

They did all the things they had promised to do with me

That whole month, I tried to run away a thousand times. But my soul seemned stuck to them I couldn’t leave,

no matter how hard I tried

At the end of the month, Sophia sat on the bed crying in my brother’s arms.

“Tomorrow Emily wakes up. Liam, you can’t love her more than me. I’m your favorite sister. I’m the only one

He quickly comforted her and promised “Okay. I promise. Stop crying.”

“When survival training is over, I’ll bring you back next month and take you river rafting.”

Sophia finally smiled Triumph flickered in her eyes and at the corners of her lips.

“Good night, Liam”

I followed them into the next room.

“Draw Take the long card. Training next month is going to be so hard. Sophia can’t handle it. Let Emily do it”

My parents left

My brother pulled the long card with no expression and tossed it aside. He didn’t notice the crack in it

The next morning, they came to the room to wait for “me” to wake up.

Sophia opened her eyes, confused, but my brother didn’t notice. His voice was cold.

“Emily, let me explain about the survival training. You.”

Sophia cut him off

“Liam, it’s me It’s Sophia”
