We Died So He Could Love Chapter 17

Worried something else might happen, Preston quickly arranged for my body to be cremated.

At a small, private memorial, he held my urn as if it were the most precious thing in the world.

“Blythe, how about I take you away from this place that hurt you so much?”

My soul circled lightly around him, stirring a faint breeze.

He looked up and smiled.

“You agree, don’t you?”

After returning home, he immediately contacted his lawyers and prepared to take Kieran to court.

For days, Preston was consumed by the case.

I had nowhere else to go, so I would sit in his garden and watch the flowers.

Until one day, the gate was pushed open.

A man reeking of alcohol, his face covered in stubble, stumbled in.

“Preston! I’m taking Blythe with me.”

Preston came out of the house and looked at him.

“On what grounds?”

“I’m the one Blythe loved. She would want to be with me.”

“I found her diary at home. It’s filled with our life together. Every page says she loved me.”

I stood beside him and watched, my heart still.

Perhaps, once, those words would have made me cry.

But not anymore.
