Walking Out On My Husband Chapter 08

Walking Out On My Husband Chapter 08

Mom came over with a bowl of washed fruit.

“Chloe, you must be wiped out. Have some fruit.”

“Thanks, Mom.”

That evening, we had a real dinner together.

Pan-seared cod for me. Pot roast for her.

Her favorite show was on TV.

While I did the dishes, Mom curled up on the couch under a throw blanket with the AC humming.

“Chloe, come quick! It’s getting to the good part!”

She waved me over, excited.

I smiled, walked over, dried my hands, and sat down next to her.

Somewhere in the middle of it, I fell asleep on the couch.

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of breakfast.

“Eat up! You’ll be late for work!”

Mom rushed a plate onto the table without even looking up.

I stretched lazily. Thought to myself: this is nice.

No cooking. No laundry. Someone taking care of me.

And best of all, no strangers barging in to tell us to get out.

On my way to work, Julian called again.

I was driving, so I didn’t pick up.

But when I parked, there he was. Waiting at the front entrance.
