Unlocked His Phone, Divorced Him Chapter 04

Unlocked His Phone, Divorced Him Chapter 04

Today was the company’s anniversary gala.

I still showed up—before my official resignation went through. At least I still wanted my year-end bonus.

On stage, in front of everyone, Ethan publicly announced Evelyn’s onboarding.

Made a special point of telling everyone to take good care of their new colleague.

Whispers rippled through the crowd:

“Wait—did Mr. Ethan really just say that? The guy who never plays favorites? I can’t believe those words came out of his mouth.”

I stood in the audience, clapping along like a good sport.

Ethan’s gaze drifted toward me—brief, unreadable. Like he was checking for a reaction.

The next second, Evelyn wobbled in her heels beside him. He turned instantly, steadying her.

Halfway through the gala, I slipped out to the terrace for air.

That’s when I heard Ethan’s voice—and his friend’s.

“What, you two fighting again?”

He swirled his drink, casual. “Mhm.”

His friend sighed. “You and that stubborn pride of yours. When are you going to swallow it and just go make things right with her? She’s a excellent woman—you’re not gonna find another one like her.”

“I know.”

“Then why bring Evelyn here? To humiliate her? You’re just pouring fuel on the fire. What if Claire actually leaves?”

“She won’t.” Ethan paused, then said it with absolute certainty. “Claire would never leave me.”

Still so sure of himself.

Still thinking I’d cave—like every other time.

I was about to walk away when I heard Evelyn’s voice behind me.

“Hi, What a coincidence. Want to grab a drink?”

She stepped up beside me, her tone warm—like we were old friends.

“I didn’t get to introduce myself last time. You’re Claire, right?”

“Hope you don’t mind—I ended up taking your spot the minute I got here.”

There was a double meaning in that—and she knew it.

I heard the jab loud and clear. My response came out cold:

“Do I know you, Miss Evelyn?”

She smiled brighter. “I don’t really know you, sure. But me? You probably know all about me already, don’t you?”

She’d seen my name in the visitor logs. She was baiting me.

When I didn’t take the bait—when I didn’t lose my cool or give her the satisfaction she was looking for—her smile faltered just slightly.

Then she tipped her glass and poured wine down her own dress, letting out a gasp.

The man across the terrace—cold and detached just a moment ago—snapped to attention. He rushed over.

“Claire! What are you doing?”

My fist clenched. I didn’t bother explaining.

I just raised my glass and threw it in his face.

Gasps rippled around us. I let out a cold laugh.

“Now that—that was me.”

A server quickly handed him a towel.

Ethan wiped the wine from his face. His eyes—cold and deep as a frozen lake—were unreadable as they locked onto mine.

He said nothing. Just turned and left with Evelyn.

I watched them walk away. Pulled out my phone and typed one message.

「Resignation letter and divorce papers are on your desk.」

「Sign them.」

Then I blocked him. Deleted his number. Everything.

I went home to grab the suitcase I’d packed days ago.

Inside, I found two plane tickets to Aspen, Colorado.

Did Ethan really think I’d been packing all this time because I was still expecting to go see the snow with him?

My face stayed blank. I picked up the one with my name on it and tore it in half.

Then I walked out of that city without looking back.
