Sofia stood in the doorway, her eyes wet as she looked at Alessio.

The box in her arms was open, the diamond inside glittering under the entryway light.

The scene was absurd.

I, the legal Mrs. Ricci, was standing here with my suitcase, about to walk out.

And she, the woman who had been “keeping” my wedding ring for me, had just shown up with it in the middle of a rainstorm.

The butler froze by the door, not daring to speak.

Alessio didn’t reach for the box.

His gaze fell on the ring, and he stared at it for several seconds before looking up at Sofia.

“Who told you to come here?”

Sofia’s face paled.

“I was afraid you would misunderstand, so I brought it over myself.”

She held the box out a little further.

“Alessio, I really never intended to keep it.”

“It’s been at my house for the past two years. I never wore it again.”

I looked at the ring.

The diamond was flawless. The band was pristine.

It didn’t look like it had been worn often.

But then I thought of the Instagram post.

I thought of the message she had sent me: “I’ll hold on to it for you for now.”

I thought of all the Ricci family gatherings where she had seen the cheap silver band on my finger and never said a word.

Only then did Alessio take the box.

Sofia visibly relaxed.

“I knew you would believe me.”

Alessio didn’t speak.

He placed the ring box on the entryway console.

The sound it made was soft, but final.

“Leo.”

Leo stepped forward immediately.

“Sir.”

“Send this ring for authentication. I want the engraving checked, the purchase records pulled, and a full history of who signed for it and any maintenance it’s had.”

The color drained from Sofia’s face.

“Alessio, what are you implying?”

Alessio looked at her.

“You said you never wore it.”

Sofia’s eyelashes fluttered.

“I didn’t.”

“Then we’ll find out.”
