Two Years of Marriage, I Never Got My Wedding Ring Chapter 06

Two Years of Marriage, I Never Got My Wedding Ring Chapter 06

The news that ten minutes of footage had been deleted changed the atmosphere in the room completely.

What could have been dismissed as a misunderstanding, a busy schedule, or a simple oversight suddenly felt calculated and deliberate.

Sofia kept her head down, clutching a tissue as tears streamed down her face.

Isabella sat beside her, wanting to offer comfort but not quite daring to.

Alessio stood by the window, his back to the room, speaking quietly into his phone.

His voice was low, taut with anger.

“Where is the head of the photography team?”

“Find him.”

“I want the backup. Don’t tell me you don’t have one. Ricci family wedding footage is always duplicated.”

He paused, his fingers tightening on his phone, his voice dropping to a frigid whisper.

“If you can’t find him, track the money.”

After hanging up, he turned around.

I was picking up my bag, ready to leave.

He strode over and blocked my path.

“Where are you going?”

“Back to the apartment to pack.”

“I’ll take you.”

“There’s no need.”

Alessio frowned.

I tried to step around him.

He reached for me, then hesitated, his hand hovering in the air.

For the first time in two years, it was as if he was only just now seeing me.

And because of that, he hesitated to touch me.

In the past, a single glance from him would have been enough to make me step aside.

Not today.

Alessio’s hand paused for a second before he slowly let it fall.

“Verona, just give me some time.”

I looked back at him.

“Alessio, two years is a long time.”

His gaze wavered.

Isabella finally spoke up.

“Verona, if you leave now, what will people say about the Ricci family?”

“The anniversary gala is in three days. The invitations have all been sent.”

I looked at her.

“So you called me here today to demand the ring, the master bedroom, and my seat at the gala, and then you expected me to sit here and smile for the family?”

Isabella’s face was a mask of fury.

“You child, must you be so unpleasant?”

“If you don’t like how I put it, you can ask Sofia to rephrase it for you.”

Sofia raised her head, her eyes red and swollen.

“Verona, I know you blame me. But I truly never wanted to take your place.”

“Isabella asked me to help. I couldn’t refuse her.”

As she spoke, she glanced toward Alessio, her voice softening.

“Alessio, you know me. I’ve never wanted to hurt anyone.”

Alessio didn’t answer her.

He was looking at the bag in my hand.

“I’ll have your things sent over. Don’t go back to pack.”

I asked him, “Are you afraid I’ll take something that belongs to the Ricci family?”

Alessio’s expression shifted instantly.

“Verona.”

This time, his voice was laced with an unfamiliar urgency.

I lowered my head and slipped the strap of my bag from my wrist.

“Alessio, I lived with your family for two years. I didn’t bring much with me, and I won’t be taking much with me, either.”

I placed the moving-out list in his hand.

“If you’re worried, you can have someone check every item on the list.”

With that, I walked out.

The long corridor was carpeted, my footsteps nearly silent.

But Alessio still followed me.

The sky outside the estate was a heavy gray, and the white camellias in the garden were in full bloom.

I walked down the steps, and the driver opened the car door for me.

Alessio stood behind me.

“Why did you keep wearing that ring?”

He meant the silver band.

I stopped.

The wind picked up, and my bare ring finger felt cold.

“At first, it was to stop people from asking questions.”

I lifted my hand, studying my finger.

“After a while, I just got used to it.”

Alessio’s voice dropped.

“You could have told me.”

I turned to look at him.

“I asked you about the ring two years ago.”

His lips tightened into a thin line.

“I didn’t see the message.”

“You did.”

I showed him the screen again, the single word, “Busy,” staring back at him.

“You also sent me five hundred thousand dollars.”

Alessio stared at the screen, the veins on the back of his hand standing out in sharp relief.

I took my phone back.

“Alessio, I stared at that wire transfer for a long time that day.”

I gave a faint smile.

“I realized then that, to you, most problems could be solved with money.”

His expression grew even darker.

I didn’t look at him again and got into the car.

Before the door closed, he suddenly bent down, bracing it with one hand.

“Verona.”

I looked up.

Alessio stood outside the car, the wind tugging at the shoulders of his suit.

He was always so composed, the last person you would ever associate with panic.

But now, there was something in his eyes I had never seen before.

“I’ll get to the bottom of this.”

I looked at him.

“And then what?”

He froze.

I gently pulled the car door from his grasp.

“Alessio, the ring isn’t the hard part. The hard part is figuring out where you’ve put me for the last two years.”
