Too Late—Now I’m Married to Your Enemy Chapter 08

Vinny’s voice cut through the room from the doorway.

He burst in breathless, flanked by two of his soldiers.

“Don Luca, more men from the Salvatore Family are outside. We have to get out of here.”

“I’m not leaving.”

“You have to.” Vinny lowered his voice, “This is Salvatore territory. We won’t gain the upper hand if

things get messy. Besides, Don Salvatore already knows. He’s on his way here.”

I froze.

Gina’s father was coming.

“Did Gina’s bodyguards tip him off?”

“No, we’ve been watching them the whole time. They didn’t make any calls.”

I took a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down.

It must have been that call Gina just made.

“Gina.” I looked her dead in the eye, speaking every word slowly and sharply, “I won’t give up. I’ll

be there on your wedding day.”

Gina turned her face away, refusing to look at me.

“Suit yourself.”

Vinny grabbed my arm and dragged me out. I shook him off and strode out of the fitting room on my

own.

When I passed the floor-to-ceiling mirror, I caught a glimpse of my reflection-my suit was crumpled, my tie was askew, and my eyes were bloodshot.

I looked like a madman.

I really was mad.

If word got out that I’d lost my mind over a woman, the whole of Ironwood City would laugh at me.

But I didn’t care.

For the next ten days, I functioned like an unhinged machine.

I handled family business as usual every day: attending meetings, signing documents, meeting clients, all appearing perfectly normal to outsiders.

Only Vinny knew how abnormal my “normal” really was.

I started suffering from insomnia, staring blankly at my phone for hours, zoning out abruptly in the middle of meetings.

I tried to reach Gina.

My calls wouldn’t go through, my texts went unanswered, and I was blocked on all her social media

accounts.

I sent flowers, gifts, every variety of cake from the dessert shop she used to love-all of it was returned, completely untouched.

I went to the Salvatore family villa to see her, but the iron gates were locked tight. The butler said

the Principessa was not seeing visitors.

I fell into a long, dark dream.

It took me back to my youth, the first time I’d met Gina at a high-society banquet.

She’d been holding a dessert plate when she bumped into me.

My suit got stained, and she panicked, dabbing at the spot to clean it.

The light from the crystal chandelier fell on her face, illuminating the bright flush on her cheeks

perfectly.

The spark of attraction had been fated from that very first collision.

Only back then, Rosa hadn’t married my older brother yet, and we were still together.

The scene shifted to a romantically decorated wedding venue inside a church.

I had arranged everything carefully, filling the entire space with Gina’s favorite white roses, so the

whole church smelled sweet and rich.

Our shared family and friends sat in the pews, every face lit up with joy.

“Next, let us welcome the beautiful bride.”

The heavy wooden doors slowly swung open.

The music started right on cue.

My bride walked toward me step by step, escorted by Don Salvatore.

The spotlight shone down on her, bright and dazzling.

My breath caught, and I held out my hand, doing my best to keep it from shaking.

The next second, Vittorio appeared out of nowhere.

He stepped in front of me.

Gina acted like she couldn’t see me at all, and placed her hand in Vittorio’s.

“Gina!”

I snapped my eyes open, yelling at the top of my lungs.

It had only been a dream.

I checked the time on my phone. Today was Gina’s wedding day.

My worst nightmare was about to come true.

Ten minutes later, I called Vinny.

“Notify everyone. I’m going to pick up my bride.”
