Too Late—Now I’m Married to Your Enemy Chapter 06

Too Late—Now I’m Married to Your Enemy Chapter 06

I flung the car door open before it even came to a full stop.

Vinny shouted something after me, but I didn’t catch a word.

All my attention was fixed on the bridal shop across the street-Bianca’s Bridal.

That name was familiar.

Six months prior, Gina had gushed enviously about Sofia ordering her wedding dress, flipping

through a magazine and asking me which style would suit her best.

I pointed at a random page.

That was the exact shop featured on that page, if my memory served.

“Where is Gina?”

The store’s sales associate stepped forward to greet me, but her smile froze the second she saw my

face.

There wasn’t a single person in Ironwood City who didn’t recognize Don Luca on sight.

Her mouth opened, but before she could get a word out, I already heard Gina’s voice. I walked past

her toward one of the private fitting rooms.

“Don Luca, that guest booked a private fitting appointment, you can’t—”

I shoved the door open.

Gina was standing in front of the full-length mirror.

She wore a white wedding dress, its voluminous skirt pooling around her feet like a soft cloud, the

waist adorned with intricate lace and tiny luminous pearls.

Warm light poured down from overhead, catching the ends of her hair and the line of her shoulders,

wrapping her in a soft, faint glow.

She was turned slightly to the side, looking down as she adjusted the lace cuff on her wrist.

For a split second, I forgot how to breathe.

I had seen Gina in evening gowns, in nightgowns, in my shirts, running along the beach in a

swimsuit.

But I had never seen her in a wedding dress.

This was what she looked like in a wedding dress-quiet, soft, like a flawlessly rendered portrait.

The second Gina saw me, her expression didn’t shift. No surprise, no anger, no reaction at all.

She just looked at me calmly, like I was a stranger.

“What are you doing here?” she asked.

“I finished my work. I’m not going to the East Coast at the end of the month. I came to take you home.”

Gina laughed, “Didn’t you get my invitation? Or did you miss the fact that I’m trying on wedding dresses?”

I scanned the room.

There was no Vittorio, no bridesmaids, no one from the Rossi Family.

Only Gina, alone in a wedding dress, standing in the empty fitting room.

The cars and guards parked outside belonged to her father, too.

It hit me all at once.

“I picked this bridal shop for you. Admit it, you’re just putting on a show. There is no Vittorio, not really.”

Gina sighed.

“Luca, we’re done. Really. I am marrying Vittorio.”

“Where is he?”

Gina didn’t answer.

“A bride-to-be comes to try on wedding dresses all alone? Tell me, why isn’t Vittorio here?”

“He had a last-minute emergency-”

“What kind of emergency?” I advanced a step, voice dropping low with threat, “What could possibly be more important than accompanying your fiancée to her wedding dress fitting?”

“That’s between us. It’s none of your business. You have no right to question me.”

My heart skipped a sharp, painful beat.

A fierce wave of anger washed over me, hot and scorching.

She was lying to me.

“You never had any intention of marrying him, did you?”

I clamped down on her wrist hard enough to leave a mark.

“This whole wedding is fake. You’re trying to force my hand. You want to see me panic, see me beg

you, see me chase after you like a lost dog-”

“Luca, calm down-”

“I am calm!”

My voice boomed through the fitting room, loud enough to make the hangers rattle against the

wall.

“Gina, tell me the truth. Are you lying to me?”

“You want the truth, Luca?”

I stared at her, unblinking, jaw tight with suppressed rage.

She turned, walked over to the nearby sofa, picked up her phone, dialed a number, and hit

speakerphone.

The call connected after two rings.

“Vittorio, I need to ask you. Are we getting married at the Salvatore Family church in ten days?”
