Too Late for Regret My Biased Family Begged for Mercy While I Embraced My Billionaire Husband Chapter 10

The hallway was long. I stopped at the elevator.

No footsteps came after me.

I pressed the button. The doors slid open.

A little girl stood inside. She had braids and held a lollipop.

Her mom knelt down and wiped her mouth, soft and gentle.

“Come on, baby. Let’s go home.”

The little girl smiled, showing her missing front teeth.

The elevator doors closed slowly. I leaned against the wall and finally let myself cry.

Not because I was sad.

Because I finally understood.

It wasn’t that I didn’t deserve love.

That house just never had any for me.

When I walked out of the hospital, the sun was so bright I had to squint.

Kael’s car was parked at the curb. He leaned against the door.

When he saw me, he hurried over.

He didn’t ask what happened inside.

He just pulled a tissue from his pocket and handed it to me.

“Let’s go home. The soup’s still warm.”

I took it and wiped my face. “Okay. Let’s go home.”

He opened the door. I got in.

A thermos sat in the passenger seat.

I unscrewed the cap. Brown sugar ginger tea.

I sipped it slowly, staring out the window.

The hospital grew smaller in the rearview mirror. Until it vanished around a corner.

I knew.

From now on, they would no longer be part of my world.
