Three Wolfens Betrayed Me. One Siren Didn’t Chapter 12

Three Wolfens Betrayed Me. One Siren Didn’t Chapter 12

I came home three months later.

Lord and Lady Winfeld looked old. Really old. Lord Winfeld was in a hospital bed, thin and hollow. IV drip. Lady Winfeld’s hair was streaked with gray. Her face was lined.

Selina had been running the company. Badly. Sales down. Market share shrinking. Employee turnover up fifteen percent.

The stock was tanking.

My savings were running out. And Lorian – sirens ate a lot of seafood. Fresh seafood. Expensive seafood.

So I came home.

Not because I missed London rain. Because I needed money.

And fixing Winfeld Group was the solution.

I walked into the manor like I owned it,

Lady Winfeld raised her hand to slap me.

I stepped back and smiled. “Are you sure you want to do that? I’m the only one who can save you

now.”

Her hand hung in the air. I looked at it – pink nail polish. Wedding ring.

That hand had brushed my hair back when I was sick. Now it wanted to hit me.

Not because I’d done something wrong. Because I’d run away.*

In her world, *running away* was the ultimate betrayal.

“Are you sure?” I asked.

She didn’t answer.

*”I’m the only one who can save you now.”*

She couldn’t argue.

I looked at Selina. She was wearing a wrinkled black dress. Her hair was a mess. She’d lost weight –

not in a good way. Dark circles under her eyes. Her pupils looked huge. Fear.

She smiled at me. “Long time no see, little sister.”

Selina turned her face away. But her shoulders were shaking.

She was crying.
