Three Tracker Alerts Led Me To Uncover My Whole Family’s Secret Betrayal Chapter 06

Minutes dragged on.

Sasha and Trent took turns calling Mara’s phone. It went straight to voicemail every time.

Finally, after what felt like forever, the fire died down. Firefighters emerged from the wreckage.

Chase rushed over.

“Was there was there anyone inside?”

His voice cracked. His heart was in his throat.

The firefighter shook his head.

Chase let out a breath he didn’t know he’d been holding.

“Thank God. Thank God Mara wasn’t in there.”

The Holdens‘ faces regained some color.

“She’s okay. She’s okay.”

Trent exhaled too, but he kept dialing.

“Then why isn’t she picking up? If she’s fine, she should answer–let us know she’s safe!”

Piper saw her opening.

She stepped forward, all innocence.

“Maybe Mara’s angry. Maybe she’s not answering on purpose? But everyone was just trying to protect her.

She shouldn’t be so… ungrateful.”

She trailed off, waiting for the usual chorus of agreement.

But none came.

She looked up, and met cold, hard stares.

Usually, they’d nod along. They’d complain about Mara’s illness. They’d sigh with exasperation.

What had changed?

Why were they looking at her like she’d crossed a line?

Piper clenched her fists.

“Why… why are you all staring at me like that?”

Sasha’s voice was ice.

Piper, Mara sponsored you. She gave you everything. And you think it’s okay to talk about her like that?”

Piper froze. Her face twitched.

Just days ago, these same people had told her that sponsorship was no big deal.

They’d change their minds soon enough. Once the shock wore off, they’d go back to normal.

She bit her tongue.

“I’m sorry. I was just scared. I didn’t mean to say that about Mara.”

Her eyes flickered with hatred, gone in an instant.

Chase rubbed his temples, exhausted.

“Go wait over there.”

Piper nodded meekly.

She planned to lie low–just wait out this rough patch.

But then Mara vanished.

She didn’t come home. The neighborhood cameras caught nothing.

Chase pulled every string he had. No trace.

Days passed. They all realized: Mara had left on purpose.

She didn’t want to be found.

“Why? We’re the only family she has. Why would she leave us?”
