Brielle was curled against Bennett’s chest, shaking like a leaf.

Her face was pale, tears streaming.

“Bennett, Graham, don’t, don’t be mad at Maren…”

“It was my fault. I slipped. Maren didn’t do anything…”

“She only fell in because she tried to catch me…”

The performance was so polished it made my jaw ache from yawning.

Graham’s face hardened.

He grabbed my wrist and held me there.

“Brielle’s standing up for you and you can’t even pretend to care?”

Something mean flickered behind his eyes. “Apologize.”

I looked up at him.

“Okay.”

I turned to Brielle. “Sorry.”

Graham went still.

Bennett blinked.

Even Brielle’s crying hitched.

Any other day, I would have lost it. Screaming, crying, the whole show.

Today, the apology came so fast it unsettled all three of them.

I pulled free and rubbed my wrist.

“There. I said sorry. Can I go take a nap now?”

Graham’s brow furrowed.

He searched my face, looking for the catch.

“What’s your angle, Maren?”

I turned my back on him and headed for the stairs.

I barely made it two steps before Bennett blocked the way.

“Stop.”

Bennett stared me down. “Since you admit you were wrong, the West Bellhaven Resort project goes to Brielle next month. Call it your penance.”

The West Bellhaven Resort.

In my last life, that project nearly broke me. Two months of all-nighters. Endless cups of coffee. Business dinners that left me completely drained. All to land that one deal.

And now Bennett was handing it over like it was nothing.

I stopped.

Bennett tilted his chin up, waiting for me to explode.

Graham crossed his arms, already smirking as he waited for the meltdown.

I fished a wet access card out of my jacket pocket.

I dropped it on the tray next to me.

“Fine.”

I yawned. “Project files are in the second drawer on the left, back at the office. The keycard is all hers.”

I stepped around him and walked downstairs without looking back.

Behind me, the deck went dead quiet.
