They Voted Me Out, So I Rose as a Lycan Warrior Chapter 03

I stare at him in a daze.

At the brother who once held me at our parents’ funeral, telling me over and over, “Don’t be scared. Big brother’s here.”

I never thought there would come a day when he would look at me like this.

As if I’m nothing more than a spoiled, unreasonable girl who hurts other people.

Rebecca is sitting on the floor, the blood beside her leg slowly spreading.

Nathan kneels in front of her, his expression dark with worry.

“Don’t be scared. I’m taking you to the pack hospital.”

My throat feels tight. “I didn’t push her.”

No one listens.

Clara crouches beside Rebecca, hurriedly pressing tissues against her wound.

“Nora, she’s hurt. Why are you still denying it?”

I suddenly find it ridiculous.

From my phone being smashed to Rebecca falling, every step happens right in front of them.

Yet the only thing they believe is Rebecca’s tears.

Sebastian walks up to me, lowering his voice as the unmistakable command of an Alpha fills it.

“Give me your phone.”

I instinctively tighten my grip on my bag.

“What are you going to do?”

The next second, he reaches into my bag and pulls out my phone.

I reach for it, but I’m too late.

He slams my phone onto the floor.

The sound of the screen shattering explodes through the Pack Hall, sharp and brutal, like a long-overdue verdict.

I stand frozen.

Sebastian looks at me without a trace of sympathy in his eyes.

“If you don’t understand how much other people’s things matter, then maybe you need to learn what it feels like to lose something precious.”

A few people around us suck in a breath. Someone murmurs under their breath, “That was harsh…”

But Sebastian doesn’t even look back.

Nathan has already picked Rebecca up and strides toward the door.

Clara follows close behind. Before leaving, she turns back to look at me.

“Nora, you went way too far tonight. When you’ve cooled down, go to the pack hospital and apologize to Rebecca.”

The door slams shut behind them, leaving the enormous Pack Hall wrapped in an awkward silence.

I crouch down and slowly gather the pieces of my shattered phone.

Suddenly, I remember the time I broke a plate when I was little.

Sebastian knelt in front of me then, carefully treating the cut on my finger as he comforted me.

“It’s just a broken plate. You’re okay. That’s all that matters.”

But now, he’s the one who destroys my phone, all to get revenge for Rebecca.

A soft laugh suddenly comes from behind me.

“Look at that. The pack princess finally got what she deserved.”

I turn around.

It’s a she-wolf who has never gotten along with me particularly well.

She folds her arms, her voice calm but cutting.

“Alphas used to revolve around you. I thought you were something special. Guess I was wrong.”

Someone else chimes in.

“Rebecca knows how to make people like her. Sweet, gentle… Who wouldn’t?”

I don’t say anything.

I simply put the broken phone into my bag, push open the door, and walk out.

It starts raining outside at some point.

The rain blows sideways in the cold wind, striking my face with a chill that almost hurts.

My phone is broken. I don’t have my car, no one is coming to pick me up, and I can’t reach anyone.

It takes more than an hour to walk back to the pack house from here.

Before, all I had to do was send Sebastian a message, and he would come get me.

Nathan would complain about how troublesome I was while shoving an umbrella into my hands.

Clara would scold me for not checking the weather before leaving, then drape her own jacket over my shoulders.

But now, all three of them are at the pack hospital with Rebecca.

Rain runs down my cheeks, and I can no longer tell whether it’s rain or tears.

By the time I reach the pack house, I can barely stay on my feet.

The fingerprint lock fails to recognize me twice before finally flashing green.

The house is completely dark.

There’s no trace of my brother’s scent, no familiar scent from my Mate, and no sound of Clara’s voice.

Nothing.

I slowly sink down against the entryway wall, trembling from the cold.

In a daze, I remember the year our parents die.

It’s another rainy night like this one.

I’m waiting outside my school, unable to find anyone, crying as I call Nathan.

When he rides over, he’s completely soaked, but the first thing he does is pull off his jacket and cover my head with it.

He tells me, “Nora, whenever it rains, I’ll come get you. I promise.”

But this time, he doesn’t come.

He carries Rebecca away instead.

I reach up and touch the necklace around my neck.

The moonstone pendant is cold against my skin, its edge digging painfully into my palm.

“Mom…”

My voice is so faint I can barely hear it myself.

“I think I really don’t have a home anymore.”

The lights in front of me slowly blur.

Just before I lose consciousness, I hear a faint vibration coming from my shattered phone, as if someone has finally remembered me.

But by then, I was too weak to check my phone.
