A sudden crash startled Tyler’s family next door.

Tyler’s father threw on a coat, opened the gate, and peered outside. The sight before him stopped him cold.

Under the moonlight, two identical werewolves were grappling viciously in the dirt.

Tyler’s mother cautiously tugged at his sleeve.

“What’s going on? I asked you a question.”

She leaned out beside him, and one glance made her eyes fly wide.

Kane had Kyle pinned beneath him, both hands locked around his brother’s throat.

His eyes were red, and the way he glared at his own twin made it seem as though he wanted to tear him

apart.

“Who gave you the right to fall for her?”

Kyle’s face had turned red from the pressure around his throat.

He grabbed Kane’s wrist but made no attempt to fight him off. Instead, he stared back defiantly and forced

out, “None of your business.”

“You’re the one who didn’t want her.”

“I never said I didn’t want her!”

Kane’s voice rose sharply, but the moment the words left his mouth, he faltered.

“I just hadn’t gotten the chance to tell her yet.”

Kyle saw how badly his brother had lost his composure and suddenly laughed.

Kane stiffened at the mockery. Jealousy and resentment flashed through his eyes, and his grip tightened.

Kyle’s face grew even paler, but there was still no fear in his eyes.

His lips curved as he said each word clearly.

“I love her too.”

“Every bit as much as you do.”

“Coward.”

Kane’s fist slammed into the ground beside Kyle’s ear.

The blow landed with a heavy thud, making the earth tremble beneath them.

Kyle went still and looked up at his brother.

There seemed to be tears in Kane’s eyes.

Kane clenched his jaw, his voice thick with fury.

“Damn it.”

“Do you even understand who you were pretending to be every time you were with her?”

He stared at the face beneath him, a perfect reflection of his own, and suddenly laughed.

“Who the hell do you think you are?”

“For the past three years, Ella believed she was with me-with Kane.”

“She doesn’t even know you exist, Kyle.”

The words struck Kyle hard.

His eyes turned bloodshot, and his fingers curled into fists.

Before he could move, a woman’s icy voice cut through the night.

“Who says she doesn’t?”

Tyler’s mother stood at the gate, her expression thunderous.

Both brothers turned toward her.

She gave a humorless laugh.

“No wonder Ella suddenly decided to leave.”

“You two have been deceiving her for three whole years.”

She jerked her chin toward the empty house next door.

“What good will beating each other bloody do now?”

“She already left with her pup.”

“She left?”

Kane’s face went deathly pale, and he released Kyle at once.

“How could she have left?”

Kyle stared blankly at the house.

The next second, he stumbled to his feet and scrambled into the yard.

He shoved open the door.

The dark house was completely empty, with only the sound of his own breathing filling the silence.

Werewolves could see perfectly well in the dark.

But no matter how frantically Kyle searched the room, there was no one there.

He dropped heavily to the floor.

Kane rushed in after him, ran into the doorframe, and stopped short.

Ella had truly taken Lola and left.
