Rumor had it that the only daughter of the Sterling family was weak, introverted, and terrified of the public eye.

After our arranged marriage, Preston Quinn took those rumors at face value and decided I was an easy target.

He had the audacity to bring his female assistant into our home and even let her wear my bathrobe.

The household staff, eager to please the boss, quickly began brown-nosing the assistant.

They all assumed I would suffer in silence, just like the rumors suggested.

They were wrong. That very night, I fired every single one of them.

Then I threw Preston and his precious assistant out into the street.

He seriously needed a reality check on who was actually doing whom a favor in this marriage.

When I walked through the front door, I noticed a strange pair of high heels on the floor.

A young woman’s voice drifted over from the dining room.

“Preston, won’t your wife be angry that I came over to cook for you?”

“No,” Preston replied smoothly, “She’s quiet and submissive. She won’t say a thing.”

I raised an eyebrow at his answer.

After changing my shoes, I walked straight into the dining room.

The girl froze when she saw me, but she quickly forced a smile and offered a greeting.

“You must be Mrs. Quinn. I’m Chloe Locke, Mr. Quinn’s personal assistant. He asked me to come over and cook dinner for him.”

Her tone carried a smug edge, and her eyes held a blatant challenge.

Preston finished washing his hands, and Chloe rushed to pull out his chair. He sat down without hesitation.

“You’re just in time,” he said casually, offering no explanation whatsoever. “Chloe just finished cooking. Sit down and eat.”

I looked at him.

“Where is the housekeeper?”

Preston didn’t even blink.

“I gave her the day off to test Chloe’s cooking. She is my personal assistant, after all.”

Without another word, I pulled out a random chair and sat down.

Seeing us both seated, Chloe pulled out the chair right next to Preston, preparing to sit.

“Wait,” I said, catching her in my peripheral vision. “Who gave you permission to sit down?”

Chloe’s face turned pale. She looked at Preston with a deeply hurt expression.

Preston glanced at me in surprise, clearly caught off guard by my sudden hostility.

But instead of backing down, he grabbed Chloe’s arm and firmly guided her into the seat.

“I told her to sit.”

I let out a soft laugh.

“Since when do the employees eat at the main table in this house? Is this how the Quinns run things?”

Preston frowned.

“It’s just a casual dinner. Don’t make a big deal out of it.”

“We’re all human. Chloe worked hard on this meal, and she’s just joining us. There’s no need to trample on her dignity.”

The remaining staff standing nearby began to chime in.

“Ma’am, you haven’t been married into the family for very long, so you might not know, but Mr. Quinn has always been incredibly generous to us.”

“As the mistress of this house, you should adapt to the family culture. You wouldn’t want people thinking you’re petty.”

Their words crossed a serious line.

I looked at Preston to see how he would handle it.

His face remained completely blank, entirely ignoring their disrespect.

Since he refused to handle it, I would have to do it myself.

I slowly stood up.

“So it’s not just her. The entire staff lacks basic boundaries.”

I walked over to the standing servants.

“You say Mr. Quinn is generous to his staff, yet you’re all standing here while we eat. Why hasn’t your generous boss invited the rest of you to sit down?”

“Does his kindness have a hierarchy?”

“I wonder if I fired you right now, would he defend you the same way he defends Chloe?”

I stared them down.

Their expressions shifted through a wave of panic, and not a single one dared to meet my gaze.

Suddenly, Chloe spoke up.
