They Thought I Was A Fool, I Was Their Only Chance Chapter 07

Grant saw the situation turning against him and had already begun edging toward the door with his

Secretary.

My words made him stop.

His expression turned ugly.

“Miss Sinclair, since the agreement wasn’t signed, I suppose it wasn’t meant to be.”

“No hard feelings. Thank you for your time.”

He forced himself to sound calm and turned to leave.

“Stop.”

My voice was cold.

The guards at the door immediately blocked his path.

Grant turned back, his eyes hardening.

“Mr. Sinclair, are you planning to unlawfully detain me?”

My father had completely recovered the presence of a chairman who ran a multibillion–dollar

corporation.

He planted both hands on the table, his gaze blazing.

. “Grant Calloway, you bribed my legal department and set a trap to swallow my family’s assets.”

“You think you can just walk away from that?”

Ethan stepped forward and shoved his phone screen in Grant’s face.

“The message just came in from my Wall Street contacts.”

“Your parent company has been insolvent for three months. You’ve been propping it up with loans from organized crime.”

“I could hand this recording and the original agreement to the FBI’s financial crimes unit.”

“What do you think your offshore lenders will do to you?”

Grant panicked completely.

The refined smile he always wore twisted into a clown’s grimace.

He glanced at Blake sprawled on the floor, then looked at me.

A flash of violence crossed his face.

“What do you want?”

I returned to my seat and picked up the coffee that had gone cold in front of me.

I took a small sip.

It was bitter.

“Simple.”

I set down the cup and looked at him.

“You’ve wanted the South Basin tract for years, haven’t you?“.

“It’s mine now.”

“Transfer your billion–dollar clean–energy company to me. Otherwise, tomorrow’s financial headlines will be about how you tried to defraud Sinclair Holdings.”

At my words, the room froze.

Grant, my father, and Ethan all stared at me.

The South Basin tract had been a problem property for years. The county had never approved the development plan, and the land had sat useless.

Grant’s clean–energy company was short on cash, but it was a genuine core asset.

This was robbery, and I wasn’t bothering to disguise it.

“In your dreams!” Grant laughed in fury.

“You want a billion–dollar company for a dead piece of land? Sloane Sinclair, you have some

nerve.”

I leaned back, completely unbothered.

“Mr. Calloway, you still don’t understand the situation.”

“I’m not negotiating a deal. I’m teaching you what it costs to stay alive.”

“The moment word gets out that your liquidity has collapsed, your creditors will carve that clean–energy company apart.”

“You won’t get a single piece of it.”

“Transfer it to me now, and I may still let you leave with

I stood and walked up to him.

I spoke so softly that only the two of us could hear.

your dignity.”

“Grant Calloway, your secret son overseas is due for another round of expensive treatment next month, isn’t he?”

“Do you want him to die?”

Grant looked as if lightning had struck him.

His knees weakened. He stumbled back two steps and stared at me in disbelief.

“What… what are you?”

Every card in his hand was transparent to the girl who had played the idiot for more than a decade.

So was every secret he had buried.

I stepped back to a safe distance, my face calm again.

“Three minutes.”

“If you don’t sign the transfer agreement, you won’t leave through that door.”

The room fell silent again.

Only Blake’s muffled, ragged breathing broke it.

Grant’s defenses finally collapsed.

His hands shaking, he pulled out the authorized corporate seal he carried with him.

“I’ll sign.”

He forced the words through clenched teeth, each one tasting of blood.

Ethan immediately ordered the other attorneys in Legal Affairs to bring in a standard asset–transfer agreement.

There were no traps. No tricks.

It was simple, undisguised coercion.

Grant signed and had the signature notarized.

He left the conference room with his secretary, looking like a beaten man.

He did not dare look at me again.
