I nodded again and again.

The System’s electronic voice sounded in my head.

“Selena Hart, make Adrian stop.”

“Otherwise, you and I will both be deleted.”

I didn’t know if it was my imagination, but behind The System’s voice, there seemed to be a woman screaming out of control.

I looked at Adrian and said hoarsely, “The System wants you to stop.”

“Otherwise, it’s going to take me down with it.”

Adrian’s lashes trembled, and a dark glint passed through his eyes.

He raised his hand and gestured to the people behind the glass.

Then he looked into my eyes, as if speaking to something hidden inside my body.

“The System, I know you can hear me.”

“Stella broke down just now and said everything she should and shouldn’t have said.”

My heart jolted when I heard Stella’s name.

On Alumni Weekend, she had called me unstable and told Adrian to give up on me.

I never expected that she had been behind all of this.

Adrian gave me a reassuring look and continued.

“The System, I can help you.”

“You don’t want to stay bonded to a lunatic like Stella Lawson, guarding a mission that can never be completed, do you?”

The System replied quickly.

“How can you help?”

Adrian said he could force an unbinding between The System and Stella.

The System would lose half its energy.

The System hesitated for only 2 seconds before agreeing.

But Stella’s hysterical scream rang in my head.

“The System, mission failed! You’ll be deleted with the Host!”

For the first time, The System’s voice carried anger.

“You lunatic!”

“If you hadn’t arranged the hit-and-run and killed Selena, then lied to me that Adrian had feelings for you, why would I have bonded with you?”

There was too much information.

For a moment, I couldn’t process it.

Adrian made another gesture.

Soon, Stella’s voice vanished from my mind completely.

The System’s voice became even weaker.

“Selena Hart, tell Adrian.”

“We’re done.”

Afterward, Adrian held me for a long time before telling me the truth of those 7 years piece by piece.

Stella had hired someone in London to create the hit-and-run.

She had even gone to the accident scene.

Not out of guilt.

She had wanted to confirm with her own eyes that I was really dead.

But there, she met The System.

At the time, The System had originally come to bond with me.

But it came 1 step too late and only found Selena Hart after all signs of life were gone.

Stella seized that chance.

She told The System that Adrian had liked her back at St. Augustine.

And somehow, The System believed her.

So the sweet romance route that should have belonged to me was twisted by her into a target mission.

She thought that as long as she returned wearing my body, Adrian would recognize her sooner or later.

But from the very first look, Adrian knew she was not me.

Once the bond began, The System and the Host could only live and die together.

In the 3rd year, Stella was pushed to a breakdown by Adrian and quit on her own.

The System had no choice but to drag new Hosts in from other mission worlds and continue the mission again and again.

Every failure made it weaker.

Until it discovered that my mission progress was almost complete and sent Stella back to harvest the result.

Unfortunately for her, this time, she couldn’t escape Adrian’s hands.

“Adrian.”

I called him softly.

Adrian held me and refused to lift his head.

His arms tightened so much it felt like he wanted to press me into his bones.

“Selena, the day you disappeared, I thought about ending it.”

I leaned against his shoulder.

“Adrian, don’t be scared.”

“I’m not going anywhere.”
