They Said He Hated Clingy Girls—So I Stopped… And He Didn’t Like It Chapter 04

Blaine’s eyes narrowed. The silence between them turned sharp.

I squeezed his hand. “Blaine. Let’s go home.”

I turned to Mason and gave a small wave. “We’re heading out. Take care.”

Blaine stayed silent the whole way back, walking so fast I had to almost jog to keep up. By the time we got to the car, I was slightly out of breath.

I looked at his profile — jaw tight, eyes fixed ahead — and opened my mouth to say something.

Then I saw it.

On the dashboard, leaning against the windshield, was a small stuffed cat.

Blaine didn’t like cats. And that toy hadn’t been there yesterday.

[lol that plushie is 100% from the female lead.] [Look at her face — she already knows.]

[Honestly, she should just take the hint before this gets worse.]

[She thinks he showed up because he was jealous? He just didn’t want his ego bruised. That’s not the same as jealousy.]

My eyes burned. I blinked hard and looked away.

So the comments had been right. He really had driven her home.

And he’d kept the plush. He hated cats, and he’d kept it anyway.

It wouldn’t be long before he ended things.

I pressed myself against the passenger door and stared out the window. If this was going to end, I wanted to be the one who’d already checked out.

After dinner — Blaine had cooked, like he usually did — I waited until he disappeared into the study.

I moved my things into the guest room, quietly, one armful at a time. I didn’t go knock on the study door and drag him off to bed early, the way I always had.

I showered and got into bed by myself, pulling the blanket tightly around myself.

My feet were freezing. For some reason, I had the sinking feeling they were going to stay that way.

A knock at the door snapped me out of it. I scrambled out of bed.

I opened the door just a crack and looked out. “Blaine? What’s wrong?”

He wedged his foot into the gap before I could shut it. His gaze moved over my face.

“Why’d you move your stuff in here?”

I looked at the floor. “I just wanted my own space,” I said quietly.

Blaine’s eyes narrowed. He didn’t say anything, which was somehow worse than if he’d yelled. “Why, really?” he pressed.
