They Removed the Fake Chip but the Real System Came for Me Chapter 08

“But now you know, so I can’t let them stick around, can I?”

“Listen. Those screams. Beautiful, right?”

Silence in the room. Absolute.

Even if Dominic and Julian had heard it in their sleep, they would’ve known-that was Ivy’s voice.

They stood paralyzed. Pupils contracting into pinpricks.

The recording kept going.

“You worthless piece of garbage. Can’t even protect your own kids. Why are you still breathing? Just

drop dead already!”

The recording stopped.

Her laughter kept echoing through the room.

Julian’s hand was still pressed to the recorder, knuckles white, then tighter, then-crack.

The plastic shattered in his grip.

Then Dominic’s eyes went red. He spun and charged.

He kicked Ivy’s door open with a blow that slammed it against the wall.

Standing at the threshold, I saw what I’d always known was in there. Crystal chandeliers. Cashmere

rugs. A full wall of designer bags and a vanity covered in jewelry and creams so expensive they could’ve fed

my children for a year.

Even the slippers on her feet cost more than every piece of clothing I’d worn in the last several years

combined.

This room, this was the room of a Sinclair heiress.

Ivy didn’t know what they’d just heard. She lowered her lashes and dabbed at dry eyes.

“Elena. Honestly. If she hadn’t kept getting pregnant just to get under my skin, her body wouldn’t have

fallen apart like that.”

“And if she hadn’t been so desperate for your attention, she never would’ve gotten hit by that truck.”

She pressed a delicate hand to her chest. “I haven’t stopped crying since I heard. My chest still feels so tight.”

Every other time she’d made that face, Dominic and Julian had swarmed around her. Soothing her.

Blaming me, blaming my temper, my schemes, my need to torment her.

This time, no one moved.

“Plus, it’ll drive Elena insane. She’s always wanted a trip like that. Serves her right for bullying you and pulling that ridiculous vanishing act. What is she, five years old?”

Julian nodded. “Dom’s right. We leave right away. Whatever we need, we buy when we get there.”

Ivy’s lips curved up despite herself.

The three of them were heading out the door.

“Excuse me, are you the family of Elena Ashford?”
