They Regretted It After I Gave Up Chapter 27

When Tessa came to visit their graves, she stood before the headstone for a long time.

The wind lifted her hair.

She took a photo from her bag.

It was a picture of me.

My hair was in a ponytail. I was wearing a hoodie and smiling, so happy.

She gently placed the photo in front of the headstone, then knelt and bowed her head in prayer.

“Dad, Mom, I came to see you.”

“Sister, I came to see you, too.”

Her voice was soft, carried away by the wind.

After a while, she raised her head and looked at the empty plot reserved for me.

“Sister, I’m so sorry.”

“If I had known what Beckett was going to do, I would have stopped him.”

“If I had known Mom and Dad would agree to it, I would have stopped them.”

“If I had known you were really my sister, I would have come to find you sooner.”

She couldn’t go on.

The more she wiped at her tears, the more they fell.

In the end, she just crouched down, her arms wrapped around her knees, and cried.

I floated beside her, wanting to reach out and touch her hair.

But my fingers passed right through.

I couldn’t touch anything.

“Tessa,” I called to her.

She couldn’t hear me.

No one could.
